The OG captain…

During WWII, the Amazons were placed under an organization called HALBERD. Their primary purpose was to disrupt HYDRA operations.

Steve Rogers was a WWII war hero and a member of HALBERD’S special commando unit who ultimately infiltrated a HYDRA operation and sacrificed himself to bring down a plane containing a HYDRA super-weapon.

The plane crashed somewhere in the northern seas and was never recovered. Steve Rogers was believed to be dead.

The Amazons were good friends with Steve during WWII and had worked extensively with him. He was an admirable man, born weak in flesh, but indomitable in will and courage. Despite falling far short of physical requirements to join the army, he insisted in doing his part to fight for his country against the Axis of Evil.

Dr. Erskine had initially chosen weak, little Steve as his primary subject for the Super Soldier formula. However that plan was abandoned when it was discovered that the formula adversely affects men. Erskine then chose to proceed with the Amazon program instead. The rest was history.

Despite being rejected from the Super Soldier program, Steve never gave up. He rejoined the army and made his way up to the rank of a Captain by virtue of ingenuity and courage. Due to his effectiveness in covert operations on the field, he was eventually recruited by HALBERD to be part of a commando unit to support the Amazons.

Steve became indispensable to the Amazons during their many missions and the Amazons came to deeply respect and admire the brave little man. This was particularly so for Peggy Carter, who was known as Captain Britain. She grew a soft spot for Steve which eventually grew from fondness to love.

Steve and Peggy even made plans to date, right before the fateful mission where Steve was ultimately lost at sea.

Peggy was devastated. She never forgot Steve and never dated anyone else after he was lost at sea. However she held on to the feeling that Steve was still alive and used whatever resources and privileges granted to her as an Amazon to keep searching for him.

Decades passed by after the war, and a miracle happened. The Hydra plane was discovered under the sea in the 1970s and within the wreckage was the perfectly preserved body of Steve Rogers, encased in a block of crystal.

It was theorized that the Hydra super-weapon was triggered in the crash, which created a mysterious phenomenon that enveloped Steve in a fourth dimensional hyperstructure, known as a tesseract.

This meta-dimensional structure was very stable under the **** cold and high pressure at the bottom of the sea. The tesseract effectively placed Steve under stasis, stopping time for him while the world moved on.

After retrieving his body from the **** depths and cold, the tesseract disintegrated and Steve Rogers woke up.

Steve was happily reunited with the Amazons, and he and Peggy finally got to go on that date.

Steve was subsequently reintegrated into HALBERD and continued using his leadership and experience to support the Amazons, Valkyries, and Tennyo ladies for many years, eventually reaching the highest rank in the organization: The Director of HALBERD.
