Problems rising

It seemed the king of Steelton and his diplomacy with his neinouring kingdom was beginning to wane and crash. His duke was doing his best so that talks between kingdoms didn’t fall apart, but there was only so much he could do from a rival that tried to provoke an attack.

The news that came in from the soldiers at watch towers and patrolling the area was that the neighbouring kingdom of Ghanral, were assembling forces near the borders. They seemed to preparing themselves for an attack, or worse…an invasion.

Emissaries were sent to see about talking with the appropriate leaders or commanders in charge. But the word was that they seemed to decline any offer of diplomacy. Steelton produced more weapons, expecting an attack any day. I suggested to the duke and the king to keep a watchful eye on the borders, and to gather intelligence for their movements and potential plans.

I sent a few of my wolvir mercenaries to join the Steelton forces to patrol the border. This was a show of **** of what Steelton had as allies, a wolvir was an intimidating sight for any normal human being.

The king asked for aid if war broke out, and I demanded some land to be owned by the wolvir kingdom for my help. I specifically asked for fertile land that would produce good crops to feed my wolvir. He agreed on the pretence that if he went to war with Ghanral, that I would answer his call and assist him in the fighting.

I assured him that I would personally be involved in the matters of war and help him in his hour of need, if the occasion called for it. I sent a pigeon with a message back to Luna Peak, to send a third of the wolvir army towards Steelton and be battle ready. I also ordered that siege weapons be transported in case they needed to be used.

In the coming days, talks to deescalate any incoming battles and conflicts were met with no progress. The Ghanral kingdom built and organised their soldiers near the border, it was until a sea of men camped at the borders that the king acted.

“I will need your help here, king Fen.” He addressed me one morning in his council room. “War is now inevitable, and I will need the ferocity of your wolvir to aid me in the battle to come.”

The duke had organised his levies to join the kings forces at Steelton whilst they prepared for the fighting. And I was now expected to help in his endeavour of defeating the enemy kingdom.

It would take weeks, or up to a month before my wolvir warriors made it to Steelton. In that time, the king would have to rely o. The wolvir mercenary numbers that had travelled with me here.

“My warriors will arrive to help, I sent word back to my kingdom, I anticipated that something like this would happen.” I told him.

He nodded his head quickly in satisfaction at my answer.

“Good, good.” He said. “I look forward to seeing your warriors in action.”

“I will join the fighting also, I will be on the frontline, but my wolvir will answer to me, no one else. This will be a demonstration on the capability of wolvir, after all.” I said.

“Of course, your men are your men, and will only answer to you alone. No one of my army will give them orders.” Loda said, his jowls shook as he wiggled himself with excitement.

“The Ghanral kingdom won’t know what’s coming.” He said in a giddy tone.

Despite the fact that the s”Ghanral army had already seen my wolvir patrolling the borders with the Steelton soldiers, it was safe to say that Ghanral did know what was coming.
