Chapter 30

Is the goblin still there?
It's run off...
Fate Roll: Likely (CF 5). 1d100=88 - no!
After a few minutes, Hal and Bodill return, the former shaking his head in frustration. "The goblin must've woken up and snuck off...little buggers can be pretty sneaky when they feel like it. Ah, well. Next time, speak up right away, will you?" Gilia nods, chastened.
"Well, nothing else for it," Jamir says, hoisting his pack. "Shall we keep searching for this grove? Daylight's burning." The rest of the group nods and Gilia, getting to her feet, tests out her injured leg. It seems perfectly functional. Thank the gods for Bodill.
The group heads off into the forest, Turuk once again flying ahead as the scout.
Fate Roll: Do they find the grove? (Very Unlikely, CF 5) 1d100=77, no.
Fate Roll: Do they have another encounter? (Unlikely, CF 5) 1d100=68, no.
They spend the rest of the afternoon wandering through the forest, as best Gilia can tell. Every hour or so the group confers, Turuk and Jamir sometimes getting into heated arguments about what the best way to proceed forward would be, and then they pick a new course and begin searching again. It's sweaty, tiring work scrambling over rocks, tree trunks, and through streams all day, and by the end of it she's thoroughly sick of the whole ordeal. Is this all adventuring is? I thought it would be a bit less...muddy.
Finally, as the sun sinks behind the trees in the west, Hal calls a halt. "Well, we've not managed to find the place yet," he says, relatively cheerfully. "And this glade seems like a good enough place to spend the night. We'll camp here and continue the search in the morning!"
Everyone begins to put their bags down and unpack the essentials, and Gilia follows suit. She realizes, as she watches the others, that she really isn't prepared - she doesn't have a tent or anything like that. Before she can think through a plan for that, though, Hal slaps her back. Well, given his height, he actually slaps her thigh, but the intention is clear. "Looking forward to dinner!" he says cheerily. "Jamir'll get the fire going, and Bodill, Turuk, and I'll try to catch some meat, but I'm looking forward to whatever you come up with."
"...Right," Gilia says, looking at all the cookware she's been laden down with all day. "I'll get...right on that."
Fuck! She thinks to herself, trying not to show her panic as Hal wanders off and Jamir begins setting stones in a circle to form a fire pit. I told them I could cook...
How does her cooking go?
