Chapter 6 by BlueKnight
Luck shines on the lass...
The Crown Princess received a city to govern on her own...
Eighteen years has passed ever since the Queen given birth to the girl who grown up to become the Crown Princess. Now, her "father", the King, is now too old to rule the kingdom by himself. And so the Council of Regents is formed to govern Eborvair on his behalf.
Aside from the Crown Princess herself, the Council also has other members such as her mother, the Queen and the other nobles who occupied important positions in the government such as Lord Aldric, who is also Queen Isolde's major political opponent.
And today, a meeting is held between the Council's members regarding the tradition of the heir to the throne of acquiring experiences by governing one of Eborvair's important cities, the city known as Iseldein, the city with a port that is named after one of the great female rulers in the past...
Iselanda was the legendary daughter of the founder of the royal dynasty (Teinarel the Rockclimber). Chroniclers believed that she ruled the kingdom for several years in a critical situation, while her two older brothers were **** to lead the troops and fight the terrifying tribes of mysterious monsters that defiled the foothills and lurked in the dark underground caves. Then something incomprehensible happened: Iselanda, without having time to conceive a single child, mysteriously disappeared without a trace. The truth about this probably disappeared into the darkness of centuries. One of her older brothers was crowned...
However, to this day, the semi-legendary person of Iselanda is perceived by many inhabitants of the kingdom as an example of a resilient and selfless woman who is not afraid to take on the burden of responsibility and power. The current Queen Mother was named after this person of the past (the name "Isolde" is a more modern form of the ancient name "Iselanda"). Probably thane Marbert Glanef chose this name for his newborn daughter, intending in advance to base her upbringing on ambition, responsibility and the ability to overcome obstacles...
Well, the current Queen Mother has indeed reached the heights of power...
And her young daughter will soon have to prove her abilities in the sphere of governing subjects.
Iseldein is a small settlement, by the standards of the populous states of the south and west of the continent. Only a couple of thousand people live here... However, Iseldein is a strategically and logistically important settlement.
This place is a stronghold for river shipping. The castle of Iseldein rises above the river, controlling one of the important routes from the western forest region to the central plain region of the kingdom.
The reason why Iseldein is one of Eborvair's most important cities is because not only it is their nation's only port but also where their fleet is stationed. In times of wars, the city will be closed, its walls around the port city will be strengthened, provisions will be stocked so that its population can survived more than a few years and half of the navy will performed the blockade around the port to prevent while the other half will patrol the river.
And to everyone's surprises, especially that of the Queen and the Crown Princess themselves, Lord Aldric actually voted in support of allowing the Crown Princess to govern Iseldein!
"This is... quite a surprise, Lord Aldric. Usually, you opposed whatever my daughter proposed." Isolde said as she's looking at her political opponent suspiciously as she's sitting in her chair.
"You misunderstood me, Your Majesty. I merely have our country's best interests at heart and allowing the fear that your daughter and her lack of experiences in governance to dictate my decision that led to me repeatedly opposing her. But if this tradition of the heir apparent to govern Iseldein will given the Crown Princess the experiences she needed, then I wholeheartedly supported such a conclusion of this meeting." Lord Aldric said firmly to show his commitment to this while remaining in his chair.
"Very well..." Isolde said as she's still keeping her eyes on Lord Aldric.
"Then it is decided! Princess Millicent, the Crown Princess of Eborvair, will be receiving the city of Iseldein to govern the city for at least three years as per tradition that the heir apparent needed to acquire experiences in governance to proven that she is indeed worthy for the throne." The Queen of Eborvair said as she's getting up from her seat.
And so, it begins. The daughter that Queen Isolde went through so much to gain will now be send to Iselanda to govern it on behalf of the King.
What news will Queen Isolde received about her daughter's role as the Governor of Iseldein?
