What's next?
Collecting schedules and making your way to class
You were trepidatious as you made your way to the top floor. Part of you worried you'd run into Lady Asune, part of you was worried you'd run into Vatarie. Vatarie's absence at breakfast was hard to forget and when your foot hit the final step your eye were focused on her closed door.
Edin paused with you but was quiet. You were glad for that, you had no idea how you could explain what was going on with Vatarie since you didn't know yourself. After a few heartbeats you resumed your walk to your room. With a hand on it you paused again and looked at Edin. "How much you bet Lady Asune is waiting in there?"
Edin looked at the door. "She probably isn't." He looked at you then stepped behind you. "Mostly likely isn't." He clarifed as he used you for cover. You were pretty sure he was joking but the fact you weren't absolutely sure didn't help you overcome your hesitation.
"Here goes." You say turning the handle and extending your perception into the room. You sigh in relief when you feel and empty room and finish opening the door. The furniture that had been brought in was removed but a little unnervingly the beds were made. Considering the amount of your and Edin's cum that was no doubt on the sheets anyone who touched them would have a very good idea of what the two of you had been doing.
Edin ducked into the room and dashed over to grab his book. You spent a little longer checking out the room to make sure nothing else had been touched. The thing you saw was that your sword had moved. It was only a fraction but it noticeable to you. You ran a finger over it's hilt and moved it to its place. You wanted to believe it had just been knocked by one of Lady Asune's workers but you knew she had touched it. That made you uncomfortable enough to take your hand away.
"Ready?" Edin asked. You grabbed your class schedule book and met him at the door. Edin's face was almost entirely consumed by the smile he was beaming at you.
"Excited for class?" You ask figuring it was either that or he was hoping for a quickie before bed.
"Yes." His smile increased in intensity somehow. "We're finally going to class at the Royal Academy." He eagerly breathed out. His excitement infected you as his statement entered your ears.
He was right you were at the Royal Academy, the Royal Academy, as a student and you were about to go to your first class. "Yeah we are." You beam at Edin and together make your way out of the dorm.
As you leave the number of students of a similar mind to the two of you dramatically increases. You'd seen several groups of varying size over the last two days but hadn't put together the fact they were all students. Gathered outside the dorm and on their way into the opposite building there were at least a hundred and that seemed to just be first years.
You and Edin made it halfway before you felt a change in the crowd. The movement forwards was replaced his stagnation as everyone turned to look towards the entrance.
'Oh right make an entrance.' You think to yourself as you turn to see a very impressive carriage approaching. Unlike the last few times she'd shown up this carriage was designed to attract attention. Every surface was either plated gold or purple textile, the top corners adorned with small dragons similar to Lucia's, the wheel's spokes had enchantment that as they turned created an image of a lion running. The driver was new and wearing a purple tunic with gold trim. You were surpised there wasn't a traveling band behind it to herald Anastasia's arrival.
Edin nudged you towards it and you figured it was a part of Anastasia scheme. You made your way forwards, causing as little disturbance to the people you pushed past as you could. When you were close to the front you stopped. You were a head taller the people in front of you so it wouldn't be hard for Anastasia to spot you.
The carriage came to a stop with it's door in front of you so the driver spotted you at least. You brace for what you expect to be a rather melodramatic display.
The driver climbed down and put a hand on the door. "I present her Highness third in line for the throne and heir to be of the Dragonis Bloodline, Princess Anastasia." He shouted out before opening the door.
Anastasia stepped out of her carriage wearing the school uniform. She waved to the student body as they collectively cheered her arrival. She stepped down onto the ground and her eyes met with yours. A broad smile spread across her lips. "Christopher." She wave you over and you complied. Slipping past the people in front without much difficultly. You felt Edin let go of your hand so you figured it was part of the little act happening here.
"Your Highness." You say with a bow once you'd arrived at the front. The students around you stepped back not wanting to be involved in this for now.
"Please Christopher call me Anastasia." She walked over and took you hand smiling up at you. "So glad the Duke could spare his only son."
"My family is ever loyal to the crown, and my father is grateful for my opportunity to attend the Royal Academy." You hope you are playing this right and the twinkle in Anastasia's eye suggested you were.
"I look forward to getting to you." Anastasia moved you hold hands into locking elbows together. "We should get to class, wouldn't do to be late on the first day." She started walking with you and the crowd parted for you as you went.
Walking through them you felt a lot of eyes on you. Unsurprising considering Anastasia just announced you were heir to a Duchy potentially unmarried and had the literal arm of a Princess. There were however two set of eyes you felt more keenly. Vatarie's presence was hard to mask normally and even with the obsession much more controlled you could feel it stretching out for you. Lady Asune's presence was subtler but you could detect it by how different it was from everyone else, a colder observation radiating off her. Edin had hung back but you felt him moving in your wake.
With your arm in Anastasia's you enter the teaching building. There are students in here who hadn't seen or heard what happened outside so their introduction to the situation was Anastasia presence. Lots of open mouths and confused stares as you walked onwards.
Eventually you saw a familiar word on one of the doors, Tetreat. So the names are the class room, at least you don't have glaring gap in your knowledge. You enter and the few students in the room turn to give you familiar expressions. The room is a titular lecture theater. A wedge starting at the front, curved rows of seating each row a step higher the one before it. Two isles split the seating into three pairs for a total of thirty seat, the desks for the seat solid across the tops and fronts. A desk two boards behind it marked the front of the room.
Anastasia leads you to the front row and sits down. You take the seat next to her and place your class schedule book on the table before you. As you do you feel the tingle of magic and relax your eyes. The book has four lock spell and the table is the key. Opening the book you don't see any changes but presume there would be as the lecture goes on. It would be cool if each lecture theater's table activates a different lock allowing you to use the same book for each class, the words you write only appearing when the right key is presented.
You keep wondering when Anastasia nudges you with her foot. You realise sitting here not talking to the Princess is a little odd. You then blank on what you should ask her. You look at her hoping for inspiration and lucky it does strike. "How have things changed in the capital? It had been some time since anyone in my family has visited and I have been here very long."
Anastasia seems satisfied and now more aware of waiting for you to talk is not going to work so launches into a long explanation. You pay attention to everything she says, making note of anything that could be relevant but she is mostly talking about the changes to the gardens, noble estates and significant buildings. Aside from a new theater whose shape sounds familiar most of what she isn't that interesting. It is exactly the sort of talk you would give to a noble arriving in the capital who hadn't been here before.
The speech goes on and you feel the room filling up. Edin sits in the middle and you feel Vatarie as she enters the room staring at you and taking the seat next to you on the other side of the of isle. Lady Asune sits next to Anastasia on the other side of the isle, her eyes weren't on you but you could feel her attention was.
Once the room was filled a door the front of the room opened and an older woman walked out, coming to a stop in front of the desk. "Greetings. You are the daughters and sons of the nobility. You will one day step into your parents shoes to run their estates. The purpose of the Royal Academy is to ensure you do run those estates into the ground. Some of you will do this no matter how we teach you." Her eyes roam the student body, carefully avoiding those in the front row. "Welcome to the Royal Academy." As one everyone's book opened to the first blank page and styli emerged from the desktop above them. "To begin we test your capabilities." She walked behind her desk to a board and started writing on it.
You watched your book as what she wrote appeared on the page before you. You were so fascinated by the magic on display you missed what she said. You looked up at her and she was clearly waiting for something, you looked back at your book and figured out what she was waiting for. Written out was an algebraic equation and a rather simple one at that. IN your old world it would be the sort of question received in the last few years of school, not something that would appear in a university.
You grab your stylus and write the answer having figured it out almost as soon as you'd looked at the question. The teacher had mentioned this was a test of capabilities so it must be just that, seeing if there was anyone who didn't know. Anastasia answered a moment after you had and the rest of the front row a moment after her. The teacher waited a bit longer before saying, "If you haven't answered by now please see me after the class is finished to discuss tutoring." She walked to her desk and tapped the desktop. "If you answered incorrectly your book will show you and you will also see me after class." As expected your book didn't change at all. "Again." She returned to the board and wrote several equations out only slightly more complex than the first. When she was done ten equations had been transcribed into your book.
You answered each as soon as they were complete, slightly more complex were still simple for you, you had spent eighteen years relearning all of this after all. Anastasia was slower than you but finished before the Teacher had spoke. "After these are answered we will being the theory."
It took minute before the Teacher spoke again, this time explaining the use of algebra and how it was important to under how it works. Again it was all late school stuff not what you had been expecting. The hour and a half proceed exactly like this leaving you really confused but since it was the first class presuming this was just a refresher lesson, not a standard being set.
At the end of the class you lifted your book off the desk, internally noted how cool it was that the what you had written disappeared until you place the book back down, and looked at Anastasia expecting her to lead you on-wards for the half hour break before your next class.
