A call to action

A messenger arrives, bringing news from Lechin. It seems that there is a sensitive issue in the trade city that requires a delicate touch, and they request the presence of one of the rulers. More to the point, the message asks for Kael. Kael is a bit suspicious at first, until he sees the signature on the letter, which arrived sealed with Lechin’s official seal. It’s signed by Yvette, the ambassador who had a very…interesting visit.

Naturally, Kael makes plans to travel south to Lechin. As soon as Ria hears of it, the teasing begins. “Gonna do some ‘diplomacy’, big guy?”

Kael rolls his eyes. “I’m going on official business, Ria, you know that.”

She grins. “Mmhmm. And the older lady with the hots for you had no bearing on the decision to go yourself?”

Kael hesitates before answering. “That’s not fair, Ria. She asked for me, personally!”

Ria laughs, punching him in the shoulder. “You’re just to easy to tease, big guy! I already told you to go for it, remember? Just be sure to give us the details when you get back!”

Kael sighs. “Sometimes I think you girls are worse than I am.”

Ria shrugs. “Gabby and I are, for sure. Evie is a little sweetheart, but she’s secretly almost as wild. Petra I’m not sure of yet, but I know her little study sessions with Evie are pretty interesting…”

Kael sighs, changing the subject. “Speaking of Petra, I’m bringing her along as part of the security.”

Ria laughs. “No surprise there. She’s as obsessed with you as Evie. Maybe more.”

She grows more serious as she continues. “Plus, I can’t think of anyone better to protect you, big guy. I’m worried about what you could run into.”

Kael nods. “Me too. We’ll be careful. Naturally, I’ll be armed as well. Between me, Petra, and the guard contingent, I think we’ll be fine.”

Ria smiles, kissing Kael on the cheek. “I know. Good luck, and enjoy your little meeting with Yvette!”

Laughing, she practically skips away, leaving Kael chuckling and shaking his head. Still, her approval is important to him, and having it makes his heart lighter as he continues to prepare for his journey.
