Chapter 27 by MirrorWriter69 MirrorWriter69

Whose plan was this?

Oh... right.

The next thing I remember was the cold hard stone jabbing into my back. The next thing I hear is a loud and sharp ringing in my ears. Far too loud to let any other noise out. Painful and persistent. I glance upward, small amounts of water running down the wall began soaking into my hair as I felt a warmer liquid running down the back and onto my neck. Reaching up I'm both shocked and not at all surprised at the red smear on my hand. Blood. Dark and warm crimson. Though the flow isn't bad, it's still there.

Looking up I'm met with the source. One of the lizards had side swiped me or shoulder checked me. Now it stood at the crack in the wall attempting to break it's way in. Each time it slammed into the rock it caused more and more rock to plummet down. It's massive body just kept backing up and slamming back into the wall. Doing it's best to get at something just beyond it's reach. It's only as I watch the brutish display that I begin to regain my hearing. Between the hissing, rocks crashing down, and sounds of the beast hurling its body into the wall, I can hear a man yelling.

Mors, whatever he had done had drawn its attention and was currently taunting it. Keeping it's attention on him rather than the easy meal not five feet from it. Frankly, I didn't care what he did. Only that he did it. Forcing myself to my feet I take my broken sword once more and stumble over to the hulking beast. Press the shattered metal against its head and activate my magic. In an instant a long blade bursts through the other side of the creature and a disgusting burning smell permeates the air. The dragon's body goes limp and I'm left with nothing more than a carcass and two very confused villagers staring at me in disbelief.

Meeting Mors' gaze, "I'll explain later. Right now, let's just get out of this tomb." I deactivate the magic and step back. Still staying in view of Mors and Nori, "Only a few minutes. After which I want both of you to hurry out of here as fast as you can. Keep an eye out but move quickly. I can only buy you so long. Start counting."

With that I leave the pair of them in the small secluded room. Making my way over to the enclosure where I take a look down. Seeing three of the beasts still trapped I did some mental math. We had seen, what.... a dozen of them? Three trapped, two dead, and the rest still running around or eating their kin. Leaves me about seven in total to have to handle or lure away. I Spend a moment looking around. Looking for anything I can possibly use to my benefit. More rocks, more big ass dinosaurs, and...

The river. Though it's not a perfect plan I can at least use it to run. Can at least lead them away and buy Mors and Nori some time. That would have to be enough. Raising my sword I start to clash it against the side of the enclosure. Each time making a painfully loud clang. Each one doing it's job to draw another of the damned lizards to it. Save for the few too stupid to escape the enclosure below me. Thank Eros that they aren't geckos.

My little music number didn't last long. After only a few hits the den had begun to barrel down on me as I turned heel and began to run. Careful to not run on any obviously loose or round rocks. Sprinting deeper and deeper into the cave's depths as I neared the river. Using it's bank as a good spot to simply sprint as fast as I possibly could. Much faster than I'd ever done before. Likely due to Eros' manipulation of my body. From kicking a man into the air to outrunning a horde of dinosaurs. I made a mental note to thank the damned deer if I ever saw them again.

I kept running, and running, and running still. No matter how far I ran they were still on my trail. Every time I glanced back they were still slapping their way behind me. What I wasn't expecting was for the path to suddenly come to an abrupt end. A pit deeper than anything I had ever seen. The walls of the drop lined with the same glowing blue crystals. Similar to everything else in the cave. The pit was a complete drop off. Deeper than I could imagine as the light just sank impossibly far. Even with my supposedly magically enhanced body, not a jump I wanted to risk.

"Fuck..." I sighed softly. Breathing heavily as the running had still taken its toll despite the new body. Looking up the path I had just ran down I could see the beasts still coming. Following my scent or maybe just knowing I had nowhere to go. It didn't matter. They weren't slowing down. They weren't going to just let me go and they definitely weren't going to just let me fight back for long. One, two, maybe three of them could be possible. Add in I'm in no way skilled with a blade or even the magic, I'd be lucky to get two of them before the others tore me apart. I reached down and took hold of the broken sword once again. Drawing it and channeling the magic once more.

I can feel the dam once more. The stiff blockade that had stopped me before. Though it did hurt like a bitch. Putting both hands on the sword's handle I tried to focus. To channel the magic as hard as I could. I tried to fine tune it. To make it sharper. To make it longer. To make it more. I closed my eyes and put everything I had into it until finally the dam broke. Sending my stumbling back as a massive bolt of lightening shot forth out of the blade.

It arced in every direction and cut a hole through one of the komodo dragons. Killing it in an instant. The same moment the others stopped in their tracks. Apparently having a weather phenomenon kill the person next to you can make even a lizard falter. It only lasted for a moment however. The horde continued their run and they simply stomped and kicked their dead kin as they stormed over them.

I focused again. It was still hard. Still difficult to make it fit or to make it make sense. I held my breath and with one more push sent a large jolt of lightening out. This one sending sparks along the walls and carving a hole in the stone floor as it killed two of the lizards in an instant. Cutting the first in half and slicing the other's head open. Only four remained but they didn't seem to care in the slightest. No, instead it only seemed to anger them further. No surprise there.

Again, I tried to focus the energy into the metal blade. To draw out the power and send it forth. For the next moment as lizards drew nearer and nearer I tried to channel it. Until it popped. Like a circuit breaker flipping. The energy exploded outward unceremoniously. Wasted. Spent. Gone. Dead.

Plan B?
