In the nick of time

Eva whimpered as the guard opened her robe and grabbed her breasts. He began to fondle them, when suddenly, his hands stopped moving. Eva opened her eyes, surprised - just in time to see the man fall over to one side. She gasped in shock.

"Who's there?", the other guard shouted. He tried to keep both her and Valerie in his sights, while moving in to check in on his partner. In that moment, Valerie sprung into action, knocking his pistol away with a swift kick before landing another right between his legs. A squeal began to escape the guard's mouth, but all of a sudden, a dart lodged itself in his neck, and he quietly slumped to the floor.

"You all right?", a voice said behind her, finally breaking Eva's paralysis. She turned around, only to find Hawk looking at her with concern.

"I-I'm fine.", she said, hastily pulling her robe together. Her cheeks flushed crimson, for she realized she had let her guard down. Valerie had been searching for an opportunity, and she should have done her part by trying to distract the guards. Instead, she had let her body take over.

Valerie seemed to sense her feelings, for she quietly placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's okay", she smiled reassuringly. "Let's get out of here.", she said, her voice betraying urgency. Both Eva and Hawk nodded. Eva began to move in the direction of the elevator, but Hawk stopped her by grabbing her arm.

"Not that way. Follow me.", he said, moving in the opposite direction. Eva looked at Valerie, who nodded, and the three of them began to move.

"When the guards returned without you, I assumed the worst. What happened?", Eva asked Hawk.

"I managed to give the slip on the way to Donovan's room. I thought the bastards would spend more time looking for me, but they decided to go back to Kaiser instead. I followed them back, and well, you know the rest.", he replied.

"Thanks for the help.", Eva replied.

"Oh, I'm sure you and Valerie had it covered. Working with you two earlier was thanks enough.", he laughed, flashing a mischievous smile. Eva and Valerie both looked at each other, turning crimson for they knew exactly what he meant by it. Luckily, they were saved further blushes when the corridor ended in a door that led to a balcony. Hawk opened the door and the two agents followed him outside.

The night was dark and the city lights felt very distant from their height. They must at least be twenty floors up, thought Eva. Hawk and Valerie seemed unfazed, like they had planned this. She didn't understand - how on earth were they supposed to escape from this high up?
