A place of safety

(Apologies for the delay on this one. Finally able to give our 60 day notice and should hopefully be moving out of this hellhole very soon so things have been a bit hectic lately.)

I found myself back. Back at home. Back in Gotham. Back on the night before I left Gotham. I felt something, it tried to attack my mind, tried to twist me into helping Mister Negative... It only took a few moments, the yelling voices trying to burn doubt into my mind. The power trying to corrupt and turn me against the rest of my team. It stopped nearly as suddenly as it began though. But... Why?

Opening my eyes again and looking around. I found that I was in a rather beautiful room, in some sort of tower. I had a beautiful view of the city though. What I saw in the sky though was some sort of energy trying to attack the buildings of the city. What I saw creating barriers and fighting back were numerous individuals. What looked like entire teams of people. An older man wearing red and purple armor created barriers the repelled the attacks. Meanwhile a man with blue fur and black hair seemed to teleport and stab at what I now saw were numerous smaller masks flying at the buildings.

A red haired man with a strange visor blasted some sort of laser out and was destroying the masks with ease. A beautiful woman with incredibly red hair seemed to be creating shields, before some sort of aura of fire surrounded her. A moment later I watched as a GIGANTIC BIRD OF FIRE just... INCINERATED all the masks at once!

A few moments later and I was back where I had been, holding down Mister Negative prepared to deliver as many more blows as I could. I saw a big smirk on his face, like he was thinking he'd already won. That vanished when the same fire I'd seen not even a minute ago, LEAPED out of my arms and began to rapidly cover him in flames! I nearly leaped back, but realized the fire wasn't hurting me. It sure was freaking me out though. It took a moment of reading a new notification to answer what had happened.

Warning! Mental Defenses have been activated! As you are in the middle of combat, your defenses have automatically decided to overwhelm the attacker completely.

Ah. Wait if these Mental Defenses kept this guy from corrupting me, then I guess the fire burning him was part of my defenses simply... Using overwhelming ****? Probably to try and keep me focused on the fight so I can keep defending myself. It took little time for him to burn into ash and vanish. When he did the others were concerned about the fire that had attacked him. I explained that's what happens when someone tries a mental attack on me, only to get looks of shock and concern in response. Following that we went to the rest area to relax and calm down. I had barely sat down to recover from the surprise of that fire leaping off my arms, when I got a new emergency notification.

WARNING! You have put off handling your level ups for too long! Handle it now or you will start to lose gathered EXP very RAPIDLY! This includes LOSING HALF THE GATHERED LEVELS!

Okay... So with that in mind, lets check the notifications and do some level ups! So it took a good 5 minutes or so to go through everything. I'll start with how the new stats looked.

LVL: 200 Strength: 200 Agility: 200 Endurance: 200 Intellect: 200 Wisdom: 200 Charisma: 100 Libido: 80
New abilities: Electricity absorption, control and generation. Flight.
Your material absorption has reached a new level, continuing to eat unique weapons or items can possibly allow you to consume other elemental attacks or even magic.

DAMN! 100 LEVELS?! No WONDER I needed to see how much leveling I'd done! SO glad I checked and handled these level ups now. I can't imagine how badly it would have been to lose half those levels though. Finally with all that done, I was able to rest for a good hour or so. About that time the others were ready and eager to head out, everyone hoping to finish off this damn tower at long last.

Going through the next 10 waves involved dealing with a large number of enemies on each floor. When we got to floor 80, I got another notification. One telling me that I'd be able to absorb more unique items in the remaining boss fights. Speaking of which, we walked onto the floor to find ourselves against some more weirdo's.
