A hole

Ethan would soon find out Charlie was being quite literal. A few blocks further, now quite far from the crowds, Charlie leads Ethan to a very familiar park. It's there Ethan sees what Charlie was talking about: a very large hole in the middle of a grassy field.

"Uh..." Ethan looks around, "Why is there a hole here?"

Charlie exhales deeply. "Fucking kids..."

"Hm." Ethan looks down into the hole. He can see why Charlie wanted help. It's maybe five feet deep and three feet wide, although Ethan wasn't completely sure. He was partly basing it off the mound of dirt next to the hole, which was obviously the former contents of the now hole. Looking around, Ethan notices nobody around. "Why would kids dig a hole this deep?"

"Because kids are fucking stupid," Charlie turns and trots off, making for the far side of the park, "They're digging in the wrong fucking spot."

"What?" Ethan furrows his brow, following after Charlie. "Wh- Where should they be digging?"

Charlie glances over her shoulder, frowning. "Oh. Right," she sighs, then looks forward, "You're new in town... They're looking for Norman's stash."

Ethan frowns at how little that clears things up. "Who the fucks Norman?"

"Local asshat. Well, dead local asshat." Charlie shrugs. She keeps walking, making her way over to a shed behind some trees. Reaching for some keys, she keeps talking. "Guy's been dead for like sixty years. He used to live in the shithole mansion near where you live."

Finding the key she was looking for, Charlie starts to unlock the shed. "It was a shithole back then as well. Norman was a fucking nut, or so I've been told, and rather than fix up the place he converted all his wealth to gold and supposedly buried it."

"Huh..." Ethan watches Charlie open the shed and step inside, emerging with two shovels a moment later. Taking one of the shovels, Ethan presses the topic. "So, local kids dig random holes and try to find it?"

"Kinda," Charlie walks past Ethan, making her way back to the hole, "People have all sorts of stupid ideas where he buried it. Most of them center around the mansion and here," they reach the hole, and Charlie turns to face Ethan, "Idiot kids don't know this park used to be fucking brush when Norman was alive. Asshole wouldn't have put it here. If it's even real."

Ethan moves towards the pile of dirt, "What makes you think it isn't?"

Charlie looks at Ethan and frowns. "Seriously? Buried gold? This towns fucking weird enough, do you really want some pirate ass shit happening here too?"

Fair enough.

"Now," Charlie moves towards the pile of dirt, "Shall we?"
