Chapter 7 by Elrompeortos2000 Elrompeortos2000

What will the city hold for them?

A mission with a fat noble man.

The trip to Helos wasn’t long since the horses did most of the work. We spent the ride talking during breaks, letting the horses rest. After a while, the city of Helos presented itself to us.

Helos wasn’t a big city, but it thrived on the collective effort of its citizens. Known for its vibrant marketplace and skilled artisans, the city was a hub of activity where goods ranging from finely crafted weapons to exotic spices were traded. Its strategic location and hardworking populace hinted, Its growing marketplace was becoming renowned for trade. Perhaps, in a few years, Helos would rise as one of the prominent cities in Greece. As we entered the marketplace, the crowd bustled with activity.

“Looks like we’re not the only ones looking for a good trade today,” Arbos said, scanning the lively scene. “No problem; we’ll just make a better pitch. Kayn, Ikaro, head to the blacksmith and make the delivery. I’ll sell the goods and see what rumors I can gather about the meteor.”
Ikaro nodded. “Come on, Kayn, follow me.” He led the way towards the forge. As we arrived, Gregory, the blacksmith, greeted us warmly.

“Ikaro! Good to see you, lad. I see you’ve brought a friend today.”

“Gregory, good to see you too. This is Kayn. He’s a... friend visiting my father. I figured I’d show him Helos and get him to help with deliveries,” Ikaro explained smoothly.

I saluted Gregory, who gave me a welcoming nod. “Well, any friend of the old man is a friend of mine. Welcome to Helos, Kayn, and my humble shop. Ikaro, leave the horses here to drink some water and come inside. We’ve got business to attend to.”

The forge’s heat hit us as we stepped inside. Ikaro handed over the weekly delivery—a mix of food, berries, and other goods—and Gregory paid promptly. Afterward, he showed us around, proudly displaying his latest work.

“Look at this beauty, Ikaro,” Gregory said, holding up a finely crafted silver sword. The blade’s design was intricate, an impressive testament to his skill.

Ikaro whistled appreciatively. “That’s a fine sword. Who’s it for?”
Gregory’s expression grew serious. “That’s why I need your help. It’s meant for the Archon, but the box to present it in has been stolen.”

“Why not just get a new one?” Ikaro asked, puzzled.

“Because that box is a piece of art as well and I can’t gift it to Archon just like this… It needs to be a special gift.” Gregory explains.

“Ok, so what do you want us to do?” Ikaro asks.

“I need you to help me get it back… I know who stole it, it was that fat bastard Vassos from the rich part of town. He knew what I was cooking here so he did his own gift for the Archon… He’s gift is an absolute piece of garbage may I add but a piece of garbage can look like a jewel with the right lie.” Gregory said with an angry tone explaining what happened.

Ikaro frowned. “So, you want us to risk our necks for your box? All for you to impress the Archon?”

“I’ll pay you handsomely,” Gregory offered. “I know this is a lot to ask, but I wouldn’t come to you if I didn’t trust you could handle it.”

Ikaro sighed, motioning for me to follow him outside. “What do you think?” he asked seriously, his brow furrowed with concern. I hesitated, grappling with the weight of his words. Despite the straightforward request, I could sense Ikaro’s underlying anxiety—he valued my input, but also worried about the risks. This was no ordinary decision; it felt tied to something greater, something we both couldn’t quite articulate yet.

“When you mentioned deliveries, I didn’t expect this,” I admitted.

“Yeah, it’s usually calmer. But listen, Kayn, Gregory isn’t a liar. If he says he’ll pay, he means it. That money could really help the farm. I won’t **** you, but it’s your choice.”

I pondered a little thinking about it but my sense of companionship gets the better of me. “And to leave you alone against a big bad Fat nobleman who spends his days drinking wine and gambling? Are you crazy?” I say charismatically

“That’s the spirit!” Ikaro said his usual attitude returning. We both return to Gregory’s office “Ok, tell us what the plan is."

“Vassos smelling butt is on his inside doing his usual gambling fights, that box is probably hidden on his chambers so while one of you distracts him the other will steal the box.” Gregory explains.

“Sounds solid, what do you think Brother?” Ikaro asks.

“Hmm if he’s as greedy as Gregory says then he will be too entertained looking at the amount of money the people are betting to guard the box… I think I can work a distraction somehow.” I say

“Very well then let’s get that fucking box and you better have our reward when we come back, I will be really pissed off if you screw us over.” Ikaro said pointing a finger at Gregory.

“The money will be there.” Gregory defends himself.

Ikaro and I left the forge and head towards the east part of the city and into Vassos house and dog pits.

Vassos was a noble fatman who overjoyed on spending his money, probably earned in dirty schemes or on gambling and fights like this one. Vassos’ mansion reeked of excess. The dog pits were packed with shouting gamblers, and Vassos himself lounged, wine in hand, barking orders.

“Ok this is it, I will climb to the roof and find my way to his chambers, I will find a way to get in and out… any ideas?” Ikaro said looking at me as he scanned the area.

I looked at the dog fight going on and seeing Vassos enjoying himself drinking wine from the fight.
“Yeah I have one though is absolutely idiotic.”

“Well suicidal plans are my preferred way of doing things so shoot.” Ikaro said

“I will get on the dog pit.” I said to him with conviction.

“I didn’t know you had a tail and a collar.” Ikaro jested.

“I didn’t know you could climb walls with that belly… maybe you have wings on that back” I teased him back as I moved forward towards the pit “Good luck, brother” I said to Ikaro with a wink as we executed our plan.

“Good luck, Brother” Ikaro said as he sneaked his way onto the chamber.

I approached the area keeping a sight on Vassos as he drank his wine and grabbed the butt of a whore he probably bought for the night. As the current dogfight came to an end, I sneaked my way and jumped into the pit alone and looked upwards facing Vassos.

“Well well looks like a dog lost his collar.” Vassos said at the crowd while looking at me and joking and hearing “Come on idiot get off the pit before my guards cut your head off.”

“No.” I said

“No? Are you stupid or have you been hit in your head so bad your hair turned white?” Vassos said jesting, gaining a big laugh from the crowd of gamblers.

“I heard you held the best fights in the city… You see I’m a good boxer myself.” I said making a show to the crowd.

“Ha! you think’? AM I OR AM I NOT THE BEST PITLORD OF HELOS???” Vassos said as the whole crowd cheered on “Now, if you want to inscribe yourself on HUMAN fights, you need to do it tomorrow. Today is dog fights.” Vassos said while motioning a finger towards the guards to remove me from the pit.

The guards jumped on me, luckily for me I managed to catch a glimpse of Ikaro on the top floor motioning me that he found his way into the chamber, all I need was to give him more time to find the box.

“WAIT! What if we make a deal?” I said with a challenging stare at him.

Vassos stopped his guards raising an eyebrow clearly intrigued by my boldness “And what sort of deal are you proposing? What can a beggar like you offer?"

“Not much, but my life. I’m on top shape and will probably make one hell of a ****.” I proposed to him

“Well… you do.” I clearly have gotten Vassos full attention.

“I challenge your best fighter to a fist fight. If I won, I get to walk free.” I proposed as the crowd cheered on.

Vassos smiled seeing the excitement of the crowd as the people already moved a lot more money than the dog fight clearly excited to bet “And if you lose your life is mine. Very well then, I will grant you your wish.” Vassos stood up calling forth his best fighter “ANTIKLES SHOW HIM WHY YOU ARE THE KING OF THE PIT” he said as the crowd went crazy while his best guard jumped on the pit after removing his armor, the mountain of a man hopped on the pit making the ground shake with his strength only seen by heroes like Hercules.

“Well well looks like I have bug to step on.” Antikles said intimidating, seeing how I’m a lot smaller than him despite being pretty tall myself but compared to his giant size I was nothing.

“I can see that the champion also lacks a brain by the way he talks, tell me did it take all of your skills to come up with that kids insult?” I said as the crowd laughed at the giant man went berserk charging head on to me. I manage to dodge his first attacks, but I knew this is going to be a hard fight.

“YOU ARE PRETTY FAST LITTLE BUG BUT I’M THE CHAMPION!” Antikles roared as the crowd cheered him on as his first fist lands on me spilling some blood from me.

I felt shaken by the giant hit as his punches felt like Zeus thunderbolt, but I need to be strong Ikaro needed me. I kept on dodging and moving fast keeping a step-fast movement and stance as I started landing hits on him not making much damage but getting him annoyed at least.

“HAHAH IT’S THAT THE BEST YOU GOT?!” Antikles said as he hit me one more time sending me to the ground as the crowd went nuts cheering.

As I lay on the floor, blood spilled out of my mouth I heard that female voice again. “Get up Kayn, this is not your fate. This… Beast is nothing, but grain of sand compared to your strength. Now stop playing around and show him what you can do.” I felt the energy course through again as I felt my fists imbued in a blue fire of power and my strength returning feeling like a god.

“Hey dumb fuck” I stood up spreading my arms wide in defiance “It’s that the best YOU got?” I said as the crowd cheers on.

That hit the right spot on Antikles as he got angry seeing his fans cheer for me, he charged again this time I reciprocated as well making a high fist jump hitting him perfectly in his face. My punch felt like a horse hitting Antikles as he spilled blood from his mouth.

He grabbed his bleeding lips “How did you- HOW DID YOU DO THAT? IT’S IMPOSSIBLE” Antikles said angrily but I didn’t let him catch his breath as I release a charge of punches onto his chest each of them leaving a burning mark of my flaming fists on his muscles and destroying him, wave after wave of hits hitting the right spot as I finished him off with an uppercut that sent him flying and into the pit ground completely knock out. The crowd stood shocked and silent but after a couple of seconds they went completely crazy cheering on after the great fight they just witnessed.

Vassos was angry of course seeing his champion lost but decided to step up again and say, “Well I guess I underestimated you white hair.”

“Understatement of the century” I said to him as I get off the pit with the help of the guards above me.

“Well a deal is a deal… you can walk free… but then again I think you are too good of a fighter to let go easily.” Vassos motions his guard to hold me on place as the two guards behind me grab me by the arms.

“Never trust an noble fatass my mother told me. Guess I didn’t listen to her.” I reply to Vassos as his two guards hold me.

“It’s just good business White hair.” Vassos said as he smiled, I looked up again this time seeing Ikaro showing me that he had the box. Ikaro pointed towards a lit fire bowl he could use to cause a distraction.

“Well too bad I can’t stay.” I replied to Vassos.

“Huh? You don’t see the two guards holding you?” Vassos said.

“Oh they are not the problem, your blindness it’s the real one” I said as Ikaro throwed the bowl setting a small fire in the house. The fire caused a great distraction and madness in the crowd as the chaos ensued, Seeing my opening I elbow both guards with what’s left of my energy and made my way outside escaping while hiding with the crowd and regrouping with Ikaro as Vassos tried to stop the chaos in his house.

“DAMN YOU WHITE HAIR I WILL FIND YOU AND I WILL KILL YOU” Vassos screamed as we both escaped.

After a couple of minutes hiding our tracks and finding a good hiding spot Ikaro and I finally settle down for a second to talk and catch our breath.

“So, do you, have it?” I asked

Ikaro show me the jeweled handcrafted box “Yeah, right here.”

“I got my ass beat by a giant idiot just for this fucking box?” I asked while also joking

“Well yes and you did one hell of job for it, thank you Kayn. I really mean it.” Ikaro said truthfully

“No problem, it was fun besides the whole beating and that.” I said jokingly

“You should have seen that fat ass face as he saw his house burning… It was priceless. Also, I wrecked his room, so he probably doesn’t know Gregory stole his box and probably making him believe this was part of a heist or something.” Ikaro said as we both laugh.

We continue to chat while trying to find a way to return to Gregory safely, It doesn’t take long and we returned to the forge safely.

“Here you have it.” Ikaro said as he places the box on Gregory anvil “Your stupid fucking box, now pay up.”

Gregory was shocked that we manage to pull this off perfectly “I- I can’t believe it, THANK YOU LADS I WILL NEVER FORGET IT. Here you have it, 1000 Drachms plus 100 more for making sure that Fat fuck house is wrecked.”

We accept his reward and left the forge satisfied with how the job went down.

“Well know to meet up with dad at the bar, God I could really kill for a drink. What do you say Kayn? Drinks are on me.” He said while playing with the bag of Drachms.

“Absolutely, my head is killing me.” I said as we both laugh and make our way to the bar while joking and talking about our last adventure.

Time for some drinks and rumours?
