The Civil War Journals: Pontificating on Bulls
Dearest Diary,
I try so hard not to think about Daddy and my brothers at war. All we hear is how successful we are and how soon it will be over. I'm not so sure myself, but I'd never voice that thought to anyone else.
I was standing next to fence earlier today, when our bull mounted one of the cows. I blushed at the obscene sight, and was about to head inside, when my cousin Debbie came out.
She watched the rutting almost as if she was bored, then smirked as she looked at me. "That's not the only bull around here."
I was caught offguard, sputtering and stammering. It was so unladylike! I asked her what on earth she meant.
"Samson," she said, flipping her blonde hair. "You're blind if you haven't noticed that all the girls around here are pregnant. I know men like him. They're ... blessed."
"How would you know that?" I demanded.
"I know," she said, smirking. "Why else do you think my Daddy sent me out here to live with y'all? I think he put the fox in the henhouse if you ask me though. Look, Samson is just like that bull taking that moo cow. You won't find anyone else here that can do what Samson does. And I'm going to get me some of what he's giving the girls around here." With that she spun and walked off. I thought about telling Charlie, but I don't want her sent off in a war. So I kept my mouth shut (except to you of course, Diary!)
Love,
Cassandra Castle
