Chapter 8 Ends. What happens next?

Confront Ada with his heart

Do vampires have desires other than their thirst and lust? Can vampires be reasoned with? Carrying so many questions, Leon confronts Ada in the sewer...

Chapter 9 - What She Got To Live For

With every step forward Leon heard his heart pounding heavily. He found himself both excited and afraid to be able to see Ada again. Yet, when he actually faced her, he was quite calm.

Ada has already sat up, staring at him with her bright red eyes. Seeing Leon fine did comfort her a bit, however, where this confrontation would go was still a puzzle to her and it worried her.

“I expect you to point your gun at me.” Ada smiled with her faint voice. The debris stabbing in her thigh was making her painful all the time.

“It’s just you, so I can put that thing away.” Leon replied calmly with his hands down but slightly holding fists. When Ada was speaking, he could see the tiny little fangs in her mouth, which actually made her more sexy. He looked at her with mixed feelings, remained alert and silent afterwards.

“Huh.” Ada was a little surprised and she smirked, as she remembered that line from herself in the police station jail. She looked away to avoid eye contacts, for she didn’t know whether what he said was what he really wanted to say.

Her thigh wasn’t even bleeding from the stab wound. Instead, the tissues around it and the stockings got burnt. If he had to guess, the debris must’ve contained some of kind silver compound, so that Ada couldn’t remove it by herself. Without any hesitation, Leon walked to Ada’s side and knelt down.

“No...I might hurt you...” Ada backed up a little. She didn’t even dare to look at him. The sweet smell of his blood from the shoulder wound was still tempting.

“You didn’t when I passed out.” Leon put his hands around the debris, “You won’t bleed to ****, will you?”

“That remains to be seen.” Ada gave him a naughty smile.

“OK. It’s gonna hurt.”

Leon swiftly pulled the debris out. Ada groaned with her eyes closed. She tried to gasp for air to ease her pain, but that just made her inhale more of the aroma of his blood. She was quivering as she feared the thirst might take over.

The wound showed no sign of regenerating, even after the debris being removed.

“Hold on.” Leon tried to grab the bandages and rubbing **** from his pockets.

“It’s no use.” Ada shook her head, “You know what I need to heal.”

“At least worth a try.” He poured the **** on the bandages and began to dress her wound.

The **** getting in her system was intensifying every sensation of hers, including the thirst. When he was lowering his head to treat her wound, she could see and hear the blood pumping in his veins on his neck. She was licking her fangs as she slowly parted her lips. She fantasized about pinning him down on the floor and ravaging him, but she managed to restrain herself.

“Why are you still helping me?” Ada asked while she looked away again and stared at the floor.

“I don’t know...Why didn’t you attack me all this time?” Leon looked up at her confusedly. He asked the question that was haunting him, but he didn’t know what answer to expect.

“I’m not like those things, if you had to ask.” Ada sighed with a helpless smile, “I’m an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Vampire Division, not some mindless bloodsucker.”

“What do you mean, you’re not like those things?” Leon was even more confused as he deeply frowned, “You have red eyes and sharp fangs, looked pretty the same to me. And what is this Vampire Division?”

“A bite from me won’t infect and turn you, for starters. I’m a true vampire. Those are Umbrella created hybrids, infected and turned by the ν strain, an engineered mixture of vampire blood and a cannibal virus they were working on, the T-Virus.” Ada explained as much as she could, “That’s all I can tell you. Everything beyond that is mostly classified.”

“So you’re implying vampires are real all the time and Umbrella used them to make a bioweapon.” Leon followed up and nodded at the ridiculous conclusion.

“And now you know why the federal want to take down Umbrella. We have been working in the federal since the dawn of the united states. Most people believe vampires do not exist, ” Ada tried to get up but the pain was still too much for her to handle, “...and we tend to keep it that way.”

“Suppose I believe you...what do we do now?” Leon wrapped the bandages tightly.

“Get yourself out of here. While you still can.” Ada sighed and said softly.

“What, you told me all of those and just want me to leave you here? Like this?” Leon frowned and checked her wound again. It was bad. On her own she wouldn’t even have a chance to make it out alive.

“You don’t understand. The situation’s worse than I thought. Umbrella - Annette - knew what they’re dealing with.” Ada shook her head in despair, “We thought they just randomly got their hands on some vampire blood, but...we were wrong.”

“And you still want to stop them, right? So many good people have died to this madness and I promised them I’d help. I’m not leaving until Umbrella answer to their crimes, until the city is saved.” Leon stood up, replied with a firm expression and reached out his hand, “We’re in this together. So, vampire or not, you’re not getting rid of me that easy. You protected me. Now it’s my turn.”

“Didn’t realize we were keeping score...” Ada couldn’t help but smirk before taking it.

Her hand was cold. He thought less about the unnatural aspect, but more about the care she needed.

“Come on, grab my shoulder.” Leon gently invited her after helping her up.

“Don’t push it, rookie.” Ada playfully shook off his hand.

“OK...Just trying to help. Watch your step.” Leon watched carefully on the side when Ada was stumbling forward with her wounded leg.

“You want to help? We have to get to the NEST.”

“NEST?”

“Umbrella’s lab. Right beneath us. Annette let it slip. That’s where the virus samples are.” Ada smiled with her fangs bared around the corner of her mouth, “You up for this?”

“You don’t have to ask.” Leon said confidently.

“Come on, we got work to do.” Ada led the road ahead.

“OK...” Leon followed from behind.

The duo walked slowly towards the platform for the cable car, which would take them straight down to NEST. It required at least a visitor clearance to start the car. Fortunately the ID wristband that Ada “borrowed” from the dead inspector in the incinerator was the ticket they needed.

“Mm...” Ada almost fell down on the bridge due to the pain. She leaned on the rail to rest.

“Let me carry you.” Leon gently approached her.

“No. That’d only make me feel worse.” Ada whispered with her faint voice and continued walking, “Besides, you’re so sweet. You don’t want me to eat you on the way, do you?”

“Somehow that does not sound like a threat...” Leon shrugged his shoulder, although the pain from it made him grit his teeth.

“Huh...How’s the shoulder?” Ada asked with concern.

“Worse than it looks. Well...” Leon held his shoulder with his hand, when he suddenly remembered something.

“What a pair. Both got one foot in the grave.”

“Something like that...Speaking of...did you...lick my shoulder?” Leon was too embarrassed to ask but he managed to come through.

“It was...” Ada’s face flushed deeply and she stuttered a little, “Our saliva can...make your wound heal faster. That’s all. Wait...how do you know what I...”

“It’s a long story...”

They both were grateful that this embarrassing conversation did not have to continue as they’ve already arrived at the platform. The door of the cable car reacted to the ID wristband and automatically opened.

Ada made it inside and sat on the bench with her shaking legs. She was not going anywhere with the wound unhealed. Leon walked to the front and pulled the lever to start the cable car.

“This tram is bound for NEST. Do not exit until the final destination.” With the female synthetic voice on the broadcast and a low humming sound from the engine, the car shook slightly and slowly went deeper down.

Staring into the darkness ahead, Leon couldn’t believe that he had made this far. Yesterday he was just another rookie police officer, waiting for his call at home. Now he was diving into the heart of a vampire infested city, which officers like Marvin, Elliot, Neil and David died defending for, which civilians like Claire, Sherry and so many other victims whose names he didn’t even know desperately tried to escape.

“I can’t wait for the FBI to raid Umbrella headquarters and take those bastards to justice.” Leon turned around and let out his anger.

“I agree...but to be clear, you’re not working in official capacity. This is a federal case, especially a VD one. Once we get the G-Virus, I’m back on my own.” Ada’s eyes flashed red in the dim light as she asked Leon who was disappointed, “Hey, Leon...Trust me?”

“You trust me?” Leon walked back up.

“Honestly...If I didn’t you’d probably be my meal.”

“Right...” Ada’s little joke reminded him of the situation. He felt powerless and circled around in the car to ease his anxiety.

“Look, I thought I might need your help...and I was right. You’re immune to the mind control ability of those vampires. Only you can do it.” Ada reassured him firmly, “If you can secure the G-Virus, I can make sure what happened in Raccoon City never happens again.”

“Ada...You said it yourself - it’s a federal case. I don’t have the authority-” Leon sat by her side.

“Leon, look at me.” Ada helplessly looked down on her wounded leg and sighed, “I’m a liability now. If I’m gonna finish this case, you’re the last hope I’ve got.”

“I’m not just gonna leave you here.” Leon was conflicted and he couldn’t find the best solution here, “What if you’re attacked, what if you need help-”

Before he could finish the worst assumptions, she caressed his cheek and kissed him passionately.

Her lips were getting warmer and wetter every second. He didn’t know what to do at first, but soon he found himself electrified by the moisture, and their tongues started to intertwine with each other.

He explored her mouth curiously but his tongue was immediately cut by her sharp fangs. Their kiss broke shortly after that and she started licking the blood on her fangs. Strange, the pain from his tongue disappeared quickly, and all he could feel was pleasure.

“Don’t worry...” Ada giggled, “I gotta see this through...and I want to see you again. I got plenty to live for. Trust me.”

She gently patted on his inner thigh. He approached her quietly and initiated another kiss while crossing fingers with her hand on him. She sipped a small amount of blood from the wound on his tongue each time he made a move, and it was much more delicious than she thought.

Pain and numbness, thirst and sweetness, everything they felt seemed to be melting with one another.

She slowly leaned on the bench when he was becoming more active. He moved to her cheek and her chin, leaving kisses with a little of his blood everywhere. When he finally moved down to her neck, he tried to unbutton the black collar that was covering most of it.

She was defensive at first as she hissed at him with fangs bared and slapped his hand with a frightened expression. But when she looked into his eyes, saw the passion and sincerity behind them, she reached her hand to the back of her head, and softly unbuttoned it herself.

He carefully removed the collar. A pair of light red, quarter-inch blemishes dotted her left neck, with little brown bruises still surrounding them when he had a closer look. He hesitated for a moment, but after taking the smile on her face as an invitation, he leaned on her and kissed on her neck intimately.

“Mm...Ah...” She was immediately drowned by the sensation of pleasure and her moan almost became a growl. She held his head deeper with one hand and slid the other up his back, hugging him tightly. The bliss in this was so intoxicating that for more than once she wanted to just bite.

For more than once he felt her cold breath around his neck. He both feared and expected to be tasted and fed on, but that never came. He explored every dot on her neck with his lips and tongue. The caress from her on his back was making him more stimulated, even when she accidentally touched where the bullet wound was. He endured the pain as he didn’t want to spoil this wonderful moment with her.

The brief moment in this cable car, of two broken lovebirds licking wounds and sores for each other, actually brought him a bit of peace in this horrible night. He wanted to drown in this moment and put all the pain behind. In this moment, everything was real and joyful.

Yet everything had to come to an end.

“Now arriving at NEST.” The cable car was slowing down when the female synthetic voice sounded again.

Leon reluctantly sat up with a slightly plaintive expression on his face. He wanted for more, but both of them knew that they really didn’t have that much time.

That little blood from their kisses was not enough to heal her wound, but did satiated her thirst temporarily, as Ada was able to retract her fangs. She gazed at him with her black, starry eyes, just like the first time they met in the police station.

Whatever danger he might encounter down there, he knew this was the face that he would fight for, that he was hoping to come back for.

“Go.” Ada took off the ID wristband and placed it in his hand, “You’re gonna need this.”

“OK.” Leon held it tightly as it was not only useful, but also meaningful, before putting it on his wrist. He walked towards the door when the cable car was fully stopped.

“Leon...” Ada looked at him before he left, “I’m counting on you.”

“I know.”
