Surf lessons

You had to drive twenty minutes to a beach to meet your surf instructor, Lily. As you parked and got out looking obviously like tourists one of the surfers on the beach turned around to greet you. She's stunning and Jane is practically drooling looking at her. Yeah, you're pretty sure Jane is bi. She's not the kind of person who can tolerate believing something that isn't true so you think she'll figure it out sooner or later.

Lily : "Aloha! you must be the Shearers?"

You nod your head.

Lily : "Excellent, I have some boards over here for you two to start out with."

She walked you through the basics of how the reefs caused waves to break and how there were different zones on this particular beach where you were likely to be able to catch a wave along with some pointers on surfing etiquette like how to avoid being in the way when someone catches a wave. Then she showed you the basics of how and where you should position your body on the boards at different stages of the process. Jane had snowboarded before and apparently it was fairly similar.

Before long the three of you are out in the water. The surf is chilly but the warm sun makes for a pleasant combination. You all paddle out a good distance to where Lily claims the best zone is and wait.

It isn't long before Lily detects what she says is a suitable wave, although they all look the same to you, and has Jane try to ride it. Jane goes off paddling and paddling until the wave breaks right behind her propelling her forward. A little shakily but with determination she is able to stand up on the board her first try. Both you and Lily were impressed.

"Usually we're happy if you guys can stand up once during the two hour session"

After the wave ran out of energy Jane unceremoniously jumped into the water and started paddling back out. Even from a distance you could recognize a smile on her face.
