Chapter 26 by latexdoll latexdoll

Pick one?

Modern fantasy sounds interesting.

The world around you shifts, the white nothing is replaced in an instant with a modern somewhat dirty city. It looks like the skyline of Chicago, but a bit less dense. You are right downtown, facing the entrance of a hotel, the Guildhall Hotel. Blue glowing words are on the door, “All first time players start here. Welcome to modern fantasy beta test.” A black leather purse now hangs on your arm, and you can feel a smartphone in your jacket pocket. You do a quick 360 turn. You are on a small side street, no parking sign, in either direction it opens to a cross street with a bit of traffic and people walking by. To the right is the entrance of a parking garage, the exit is to the left. Beyond the ramps, to the right is a sandwich shop, the left has an entrance to another part of the hotel, directly into the bar, “The Laughing Hyena Tavern.” Behind you, the back of a 40+ story office building stretches the entire block.

The words have vanished when you look back at the doors, but as you push through the doors, you are hit with a wall of text. “Modern fantasy beta test is basically dungeons and dragons in the year 2020. Biggest difference, the population is 10% of what it is in real life, not due to some disaster, just due to monsters, and the programmers limits. Big cities are smaller, medium cities are small towns and outposts, small cities are forts, with tiny cities either omitted or just tiny farming communities. There are few truly unexplored areas, but there are huge areas that are very under explored and largely unknown. Plus many ruins, and remnants of past civilizations full of magical items and monsters. Due to an **** lack of paved roads, the cars are usually either off road capable or can hover, or even fly, as magic does exist. As with standard fantasy world, there are many ways to play. Discover the best one for you and have fun. Open carry of weapons is legal most everywhere, **** is not. Magic detectives keep crime low, monsters keep adventures in high demand.”

You can’t help but chuckle as the text fades away. You go into a standard looking, sort of Greek inspired lobby, and up to the smiling young man at the front desk. “Hi.”

“Hello.” He pauses, blue words appear, “Preferred pronoun?”

What is your choice?
