Chapter 12
by
Drakonis
What's next?
Great Chase beginn
Draco lay hidden in the bush, carefully concealing his scent with a blend of herbs Valentia had gathered.
He had already waited for a few hours, looking for any sort of movement.
The fish sprawled out on the ground, glistening in the fading light, their shiny scales tempting any hungry predator.
He was just beginning to doubt their plan when he spotted a figure land gracefully nearby—it was Yuki.
She surveyed the area, her sharp eyes scanning for any signs of danger. Sniffing the air, she seemed unaware of his presence.
“Didn’t they learn? What a bunch of idiots,” she muttered to herself, a smirk dancing on her lips as she approached the pile of fish.
Just as she reached for the pouch, swinging it over her shoulder, Draco took action.
Bursting from the bush, he unleashed a fireball toward her.
It flew through the air, missing her by inches as she deftly dodged, a flash of surprise lighting her eyes.
“This is no game anymore!” she called out, her voice laced with anger.
Without a moment’s hesitation, she turned on her heel and leaped into the trees, her movements fluid and graceful.
She danced along the branches, each leap carrying her farther away, her agility and quick reflexes making it clear that catching her would be no easy feat.
The Chase had began
Seeing the direction she sprinted, Draco smirked to himself, his mind racing realizing that his plan worked.
"I’ve noticed a pattern in your movement", he thought, remembering her previous chase," When you jump from a branch, you want to take the least amount of risk possible".
"So you always aim for the spots where the trees aren’t thick, landing on the nearest branch."
He could see her agility in action, each jump precise and calculated, but he also noticed remembering her hesitation with his fire.
"Only when I shot my fire at you did you take a riskier jump, and shortly after that, you decided the fun was over.
He smirked as he could see Yuki taking the path they had wanted
“So Venetia created a perfect and safe path for you with her wind magic, which will lead right to our trap,” he thought, a smirk forming on his lips.
" The fireball had been the signal, announcing the start of the chase. I’ll lead you to her, and then we will capture you together."
Draco unleashed several fireballs in quick succession, each one aimed just slightly off-course.
They soared through the air, bursting against nearby trees and creating a fiery barrier designed to steer Yuki in the direction they wanted.
The flames illuminated the forest, casting flickering shadows that danced on the earth.
“Let’s see how you navigate this!” he called out, watching intently as Yuki reacted.
She darted left, narrowly avoiding one of the fireballs, and then quickly adjusted her trajectory, leaping toward the path he was trying to guide her down.
Her agility was impressive, but Draco was determined to maintain control.
With each fireball, he pushed her closer to the trap they had set with Valentia’s help. “You’re not as clever as you think!” he taunted, his excitement mounting.
He followed fast, using her scent to guide him, his eyes barely able to keep up as she seemed to fuse with the woods.
Each movement she made was fluid as if the forest itself was aiding her escape.
In this battle, he knew that the one who controlled the situation would be the victor. Last time, Yuki had been in control, but now it was his turn.
To keep the illusion of a normal chase, he acted as though he was still trying to catch her by simple being faster than her.
He planted his feet firmly on the ground, conjuring flames beneath him.
With a combination of magic and strength, he propelled himself forward, soaring through the air after her.
He flew toward her, but she dodged it of course, slipping effortlessly onto a branch just out of reach. Draco landed with a thud, quickly regrouping.
He noticed she was preparing to jump again, aiming for a branch that wasn’t part of their planned route.
Thinking fast, he formed fire in his hand and combined it with a gust of wind magic, sending it toward the spot she was about to land.
The flames roared forward, illuminating the darkening forest and creating a wall of heat and light.
Seign the fire attack, she changed course going back to the trapped path.
Both of them chased for a while, racing through the trees with adrenaline pumping.
As they approached a crucial spot where Yuki was supposed to turn left, Valentia was already waiting in a bush, ready to execute their plan.
But in a surprising twist, Yuki turned right, completely going against what they had mapped out.
"It can’t fail here", Draco thought, frustration boiling within him as he felt his burned throut protesting from magical overuse. He needed to find a way to stop her.
Remembering the final attack from the wolf he had fought at the beginning of his life, he prepared for a powerful jump.
He dropped to all fours, positioning his arms and legs like a predator ready to pounce.
Feeling the fire building up in his muscles, he focused on the tree where he anticipated she would land.
With a great leap, he launched himself at the tree, his horns aimed to ram into it.
The world around him blurred as he soared through the air, channeling every ounce of magic and strength.
He landed hard against the trunk, the impact reverberating through him.
He screamed as he stood up, the **** of this slightly uprooting the tree.
Yuki, who had just landed on top of it, looked down in shock as the ground shook beneath her.
The sudden movement sent her off balance, and in a split second, she was tumbling down.
"Draco’s heart raced, hoping that she would fall here. Although it was against the plan, it would have been good for him.
However, this never happened as she regained her footing."
Realizing the tree beneath her was unstable, she quickly decided to take a safer route.
With a nimble jump, she darted away, and headed straight toward Valentia’s hiding spot.
“Venetia!” Draco shouted, desperation in his voice. He needed her to act now. If they didn’t captured Yuki this time, all their planning would have been for nothing.
Yuki was taken by surprise, snarling at Draco. “This was a game between us, not between me and her!”
Just then, Valentia emerged from the bush, Previously unnoticed by Yuki amid the chaos.
Without hesitation, she launched an air slash, the gust of wind cutting through the space and forcing Yuki to momentarily halt her pace.
But Yuki quickly regained her footing, instincts kicking in, and she darted away, more driven by survival than caution.
Draco sprinted after her, heart pounding. “Valentia!” he called out, sensing the urgency. Valentia chanted “Air Feet,”
and wind swirled around her legs, propelling her forward with newfound speed.
“We need to get her down, on this very spot or the trap won’t work!” Valentia shouted, urgency lacing her voice.
“I have an idea,” Draco replied, pain flaring in his lungs from overuse as he filled them with fire once more.
Ignoring the pain, he launched a smaller fireball in Yuki’s direction. Valentia followed up with a chant of “Wind Arrow.”
Instead of the Wind attacks Valentia had used in her fight against Draco, this was more focused on speed, sacrificing for its Power.
The Wind picks up Draco flames, creating a small and concentrated form and fire, flying with impressive speed.
Yuki saw the incoming blast and braced for the worst, her heart racing.
However, she quickly realized that the fireball wasn’t aimed directly at her but rather at the exact spot where she had been standing moments ago
The fire quickly engulfed several of the branches, sending wood and leaves into the air.
“Shit!” she, with only small burns on her body, exclaimed, her eyes widening as she saw that most of the sounding branches were destroyed.
She looked for a position for she to jump, however, several Ar slashes cut off the surrounding branches, making her unable to jump anywhere
The **** of the blast caused her to lose her balance, and the fish bag she had stolen fell from her grasp as she fell to the ground.
She landed gracefully, like a cat, but as she looked back at her pursuers, she saw another fireball arcing toward her.
Hoping for the same trick as last time, she jump again over the flames
However, Draco only smiled as the flames hit the ground, creating again cloud that engulfed the three of them.
The acrid smell of smoke filled the air, mingling with the earthy scent of the forest and of burned leaves.
Venetia, sticking to the plan, shouted, "Air Blast!" The powerful gust swept through the clearing, dispersing the dust cloud and revealing Yuki,
who was taken back by the dispersion and who was preparing herself to flee from this scene.
"You cant flee this time" exclaimed Draco with a booming Voice.
Yuki’s heart sank as despair washed over her; the realization of her imminent defeat settled heavily on her shoulders, a stark contrast to her earlier confidence.
Valentia then conjured an Air Slash but it wasn’t aimed at Yuki. Instead, it targeted a small, nearly invisible string cleverly hidden behind her.
With a swift snap, the string released, triggering a series of ropes that sprang forth from the underbrush.
They coiled around Yuki’s body, binding her arms and legs tightly, rendering her completely immobilized.
She tried desperately to get out of this Binding but had no luck with that.
As she looked up she could only see Dracos imposing form towering over her.
