the limo pulls up at the marina

Chapter 201 by zankoo zankoo

As the limo pulled up to the secluded marina, everyone piled out, stretching their legs after the long ride. Staci led the group down the dock, the clicking of her heels against the weathered wood echoing out over the tranquil water.

"There she is," Staci announced proudly, gesturing to the gleaming yacht bobbing gently in its slip. "The Golden Rule, the Reynolds family boat."

Abbie gasped as she took in the sleek lines and polished chrome accents of the impressive vessel. "Wow Staci, when you said boat, I was picturing something a little more ... modest."

Staci laughed. "Oh please, modesty is overrated. Besides, Daddy insisted we take the yacht this weekend. He wants to make sure we celebrate my upcoming nuptials in style." She led the group up the gangway, beaming as everyone followed her, eyes wide, mouths agape. "Welcome aboard!” she said, her arms wide in a gesture that seemed to embrace the entire yacht. "I'm so excited you're all here. Let me show you around so you can make yourselves at home."

As everyone made their way on board, they touched the gleaming chrome railing, admired the exquisite decor, and murmured and chattered their excitement for what the day had in store. Ashley and Alicia, already plenty familiar with the boat, ran off together laughing, only to reappear a minute later having done little more than a playful lap around the deck.

As the others gathered, Staci gestured toward the bow. "Up front, on the fore deck, there's plenty of space to sunbathe. Stretch out, soak up the rays -- it's one of my favorite spots." She turned and pointed toward the stern. "And back there on the aft deck, we've got a cozy lounge area with some comfy seating. Perfect for hanging out, and the bar is fully stocked, so grab whatever you like. Seriously, anything. Daddy has it all."

Staci led them toward the main doors. "Inside, you'll find the salon, where it's a little cooler if you need a break from the sun. There's more seating, and a sound system if anyone wants to put on their DJ hat. And if you head downstairs -- just take those stairs over there on the right -- there are guest rooms if anyone needs to freshen up or wants some quiet time. Bathrooms are en-suite, and there are towels and everything else you could need."

Everyone began meandering around the boat, giving themselves informal tours, wandering the decks, and exploring the rooms.

"I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready to keep this party going," Staci declared, sauntering over to the bar. She grabbed a bottle of champagne from the ice bucket and popped the cork with practiced ease. Bubbly liquid frothed into the waiting flutes.

"To new friends and naughty adventures!" shrieked Ashley, grabbing two glasses and handing one to Alicia.

"To the untold mysteries and histories of The Golden Rule!" Alicia cheered, laughing at her sister. More glasses were distributed, and before long, the crowd had spread out across the deck, chatting, laughing, and drinking.

Jake gathered a glass and handed it to Abbie. They smirked at each other as they watched the collected group explore the boat, taking in the beauty, the architecture, touching the chrome rails, the polished wood trim. They each found themselves turning in place, constantly in awe.

"Jake, I've never been on a boat like this!" Abbie whispered, clutching his hand.

Jake felt his heart beat a little faster as Abbie held his hand. They'd had so many experiences together that were far more thrilling than a simple hand hold, and yet something about this particular moment surprised Jake. "Yeah," he said. "Me neither."

"She's pretty sweet, huh?"

Startled by the voice, Jake looked to his left to see Phil standing nearby, looking out over the water. He slowly turned, a satisfied smile on his face which grew into a slight chuckle as he saw Jake's confused expression.

"She ...?" Jake started.

Phil sipped his champagne. "The boat."

Jake let out a sigh. "Oh man." He shook his head. "I -- I didn't know who you were talking about." He looked toward Abbie, who was giggling at him. "But, you know, it wouldn't even matter. Abbie's sweet, Staci's sweet ..." He swallowed the entirety of his champagne and then wiped the corner of his mouth. "The whole thing, the whole day."

"First time on a yacht?" Phil asked.

Jake laughed. "Can you tell?"

"But not you," Phil said to Abbie. "Surely you've experienced things like this before."

Abbie was still holding Jake's hand and squeezed it. "I've sailed -- but nothing quite this big before. It's pretty incredible!"

Phil turned back toward the water, the wide expanse ahead of them. "I love it. I feel so lucky -- I mean, not the boat, just the ... the life. Lucky in love, lucky in life." He looked around the boat, and his eye caught sight of Staci at the far end, laughing with Melanie and Karl. "Things can be pretty magical, you know?" He finished his champagne, and turned back to Jake and Abbie. "I'm going to go get a refill." Looking at his glass, he reconsidered. "Or maybe something a bit more fun." With a pat on Jake's arm, he walked away toward the bar.

Abbie gave Jake's hand a slight tug, drawing his attention away from Phil and back toward her. As he faced her, she rose up on her toes and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips.

"What was that for?" Jake said, delightfully surprised.

Abbie tilted her head to the side and blinked at him. "Nothing in particular. Maybe just because you're cute." She licked her lips. "Or maybe just to taste a little more champagne."
