Chapter 44

What's next?

They talk about what happened

The group conversation flowed smoothly, filled with laughter, teasing, and the occasional mock argument about music or who made the best drinks. Lukas felt himself easing into the comfortable rhythm, especially with Brittany by his side. She was relaxed, engaging with everyone effortlessly, and every now and then, her eyes would flick toward him, a small, private smile on her lips that made his heart skip a beat.

At one point, their friends became absorbed in a debate over a ridiculous party game, leaving Lukas and Brittany a moment to talk quietly to each other. She leaned in a bit closer, her shoulder brushing against his as she took a sip of her drink.

"So," she began, her tone playful, "been enjoying yourself tonight?"

"Yeah, actually," Lukas replied, glancing at her. "It's been better since you showed up."

She raised an eyebrow, a sly smile playing on her lips. "Oh, is that right? Didn’t think you noticed I was here at first."

"Are you kidding?" he said, grinning. "Hard not to notice when someone unexpected shows up."

Brittany chuckled, looking at him over the rim of her cup. There was a glint in her eyes now, something a bit more daring than before. She shifted slightly closer, her voice lowering so only he could hear. "You know," she began, her tone becoming a touch more suggestive, "I was thinking about the last time we hung out."

Lukas's mind raced, a vague recollection surfacing. "Oh? And what exactly were you thinking about?"

She gave him a teasing look, leaning in so that her breath tickled his ear. "About how we got interrupted in your room," she whispered. "You know, when I was... servicing you."

Lukas felt a rush of heat flood his face at her words, the memory hitting him all at once. It had been one of those rare moments when they'd managed to find some privacy. Things had heated up quickly, only for them to be interrupted, leaving them both frustrated and with an unspoken tension hanging between them ever since.

"Right," he muttered, clearing his throat, his eyes darting around to make sure no one else was paying attention to their conversation. "I remember that."

She pulled back slightly, just enough to meet his eyes, a mischievous smile curling at the corners of her mouth. "Shame we didn't get to finish," she murmured, her voice still low and private. "I've been thinking about it."

Lukas swallowed hard, his pulse quickening at the way she was looking at him now, the playful banter taking on a much more heated undertone. "You're not the only one," he admitted, trying to keep his voice steady despite the way his heart was pounding.

Brittany's smile grew, her eyes gleaming with the thrill of the shared secret. "Well," she said, her voice sultry and teasing, "maybe we can find a way to avoid interruptions this time around."

He opened his mouth to respond, his mind racing with what to say next, when one of their friends suddenly turned toward them, pulling them back into the group conversation. Lukas glanced at Brittany, who simply shot him a knowing look, a silent promise lingering in her eyes. The interruption might have derailed their moment, but the charged tension between them remained, an undercurrent that neither of them seemed in a hurry to dispel.

Do they take it upstairs?
