Robb Fields, 17 years 365 days old, moving to his family after graduation

This is my first time writing here. I don't think I am any good at it but I had a thought that led to an idea that made me itchy to write it. I don't know how well I will do and don't know how me adding chapters will be as will be as I get the idea planned out in my head enough that I can flesh it out as I write. MC does share a name but that is more because of how the children are named which will be brought up in later chapters. I will slowly edit chapters though will try and not do re-writes when I go through chapters or if I read a comment about something.

This really sucks. Robb thinks as his butt gets battered with any and all bumps on the road. The van might have made the trip from Oregon to Virginia and only cost $500 but Mr. Douglas got lucky to find a buyer. The van really only had the driver's seat inside so had plenty of room for all his junk from the 5 years of living with his best friend Angel and her family. The body and engine might be in good condition but everything else is worn out like Mr. Douglas or worse which means there is no shock absorption. He found out that where he believed he would be driving 6 or more hour stretches were 2 hours at most after the first try at 5 hours and the pain he was in.

If bouncing like this even with a cushion in the seat can hurt this much then how do horse riders adjust? I won't be doing any long trips in this till I can make some summer funds to at least get new shocks. Robb grunts at a big bounce from a little dip caused his knee to hit the dashboard. Hope dad has the tools where I can try to move the seat back.

Robb Fields is almost 18. Graduated a little more than 2 weeks ago in the middle of the class. That was because school wasn't a challenge so his mind wandered. He took a couple of college courses which led to him knowing he needed some prep classes for learning how to better take notes and what will help identify important things. His high school felt to him as if it failed him. Angel and her family were so nice to allow him to have the little space he had in the basement. Really only a bed and his computer desk but it allowed him to stay where he grew up while his family tried to carve out a new life near Desmona's college. At 6'2 and 185 lbs made him a beanpole. Blue eyes and white hair set him apart as he was accused often of coloring it. Loved to play sports but not naturally gifted which meant that shooting baskets was closest he got to playing.

Friends were in short supply. Angel did spend time with him but most of it was with her girl squad (she got mad at him for that name but she did have to agree they moved like a squad) or her boyfriend of the week. This meant that gaming and reading stories online is where he spent his free time when not in school or working. The Williams had taught him the importance of helping others though they did make him work for his place. It had been jobs around the house or on the cars until he was old enough to get a job which was then $200 a month to help offset bills and food. He knew that he never repaid the amount they had to spend so it gave him a deep respect for the idea of helping but don't do so for free if more than a quick thing. Demon (as Robb calls his sister which is how he learned to call he as a toddler) visits on her breaks in college and stays with friends or their families since a couple of weeks is max she would be in town was the other person he spent time with. She had the same eyes and hair color though she had waist length compared to his "high and tight" as he hated his hair. Angel had black hair to her shoulder blades and dark brown eyes which was to Robb the only difference in Angel and Demon as body shape seems so close. Neither were petite but around a head shorter than him with a softness over being lean with great tops and bottoms to him. Getting slapped or punched by one or both of them was not uncommon which is why he remembers their eye colors but just doesn't pay enough attention to either to learn more. Being punched by both was the worst as it seemed that happened when they were mad about the other and they hit hardest then.

Robb savings were not great but not bad as he spent little on anything which is how he could afford the van and insurance. Was better than trying to figure out what to take on the bus and what to try having shipped. He also thought it could be a project if he could make enough money to get tools to work on making it a nice ride. He also had a new gaming pc waiting for him when he got to his family's house.

He had not been with his family in person since the move other than his sister visiting every chance she got and their mother visited once in each of the previous 3 summers. Their dad was busy with his realtor job and their oldest daughter was busy with career. He didn't even know if Ness would be showing up for his birthday/homecoming(?) party that he knew his mother would have. He was going to be lucky if he arrived by 7pm when he thought he would have been 4 days earlier.

Breakdown of Robb is a high school graduate that has little social or athletic graces but sees no problem at the moment. He has been separated from his family for 5 years because of family sacrifices for Demon's scholarship for her business degree and the pandemic hitting soon after. He was not in the out crowd but was part of the in crowd. He just drifted through school the older he got.

Characters that Robb knows that have impact on story at start.

Father (Mark, 42) retired from being a recruiter and now works as a realtor.

Mother (Ellen, 41) is happy as housewife who does lots of volunteering for youth programs.

Oldest child (Ness, 29) is working on her career.

Middle child (Desmona aka Demon, 23) is working on degree.

Youngest child (Robb, almost 18/18) is fresh high school graduate that has not decided what to do so is going to be skipping a semester of college or find something last minute.

Angel Williams (19) is Robb's best friend as they grew up together and her parents actually delayed her a year from starting kindergarten so they could go together.

Ted and Jane Williams (44 and 48) are Angel's parents with the mother of both sides being really close.
