Camping Adventures

It happened on a camping trip with friends, and friends of friends. A small group of people in their twenties and early thirties. A group small enough to be cozy, but large enough so that I did not know everyone beforehand. So I ended up in a "2 room" tent with my long-time friend Sara in the same room and a guy named Kevin I had not met before in the other room, with a small "living room" and the entry in between. Enough privacy so that Sara and I could update each other on our recent life events, reasons for tears, and adventures. On the other hand the tent walls don't really provide privacy so looking at the situation from the future I am sure everyone who wanted could hear everything. Anyways!

We arrived rather late on the first evening of our camping weekend, so we quickly set up our tents, spread around the small lake in the woods. Then we had a quick dinner, and went to "bed" into our respective tents. What followed was the mentioned talk with Sara, and then deep sleep. I am not a regular camper, but when I do it, I enjoy it quite much. In that moment I enjoyed the quiet night, listening to the sounds of nature, and breathing the fresh air of the woods. So I quickly fell into a deep and relaxing sleep.

Later I woke up. It was in the middle of the night, or even very early in the morning, so the night got a bit colder. It turned out that the obvious woke me up: I needed to pee. First I tried to ignore the need. But when I failed to fall back to sleep, I recalled the advice of the camping expert on YouTube: if you need to, do it as soon as possible, because you need to do it anyways (and your body consumes energy with "holding it", energy it would prefer to use to keep you warm in your sleeping bag).

I also knew that it was not going to get warmer soon, so I faced the situation and quietly got out of my sleeping bag.

Then, I had to face the next choice:

• Put on some clothes and walk to the close by sanitary booth in the woods
• Rush out only in the underwear and do it behind the next tree
• Use the "Potty" that we had stored in our "living room"
• ..?
