Saying Goodbye
Being that it was Taylor’s last day in town, the Ravers decided to stay in and have a family day with the whole family. It wasn’t often anymore that they all got to spend time together, so they were going to take advantage of it while they could.
Taylor, Zack, and Heather were the ones that were doing most of the talking and Robert and Monica were just sitting there watching their children, happy that they got along, which wasn’t something that a lot of parents could say about their children.
“So, when will you be coming back home?” Zack asked.
“I will be home for Halloween. We always have the best parties here. There is no way that I would miss that.” Taylor said.
“Should we all coordinate our costumes?” Heather asked.
“Yeah. That would be fun.” Zack said.
“I agree. We can talk about that over the next couple of weeks. That doesn’t have to be done right now.” Taylor said.
“That’s true. We will also get to come and see you when we come for the tour of campus.” Heather said.
“Yeah. That will be fun. I look forward to seeing what you think of the place.” Taylor said.
“I am ready to be at college, I think it will be fun to be whatever I want for once.” Heather said and Monica took this chance to get into the conversation.
“You know Heather, it is all well and good to go and have fun at college, but you need to do your class work too.” Monica said.
“I know mom. You know that I will get everything done.” Heather said and Monica nodded because she knew that Heather got just as good of grades as her siblings did.
“There is a lot of work to do at college, but there will be plenty of time for you to play as well.” Taylor said with a smirk.
“There better be. So, what are you looking forward to about college, Zacky?” Heather asked as she and Taylor looked at their brother.
“I don’t know. I know the classes won’t be fun, but I am looking forward to learning some new things while I am there.” Zack said.
“Leave it to my twin to be a stick in the mud. You have to be looking forward to more than that.” Heather said.
“Well, it will be nice to get to see my older sister everyday like I used to.” Zack said.
“That’s obvious.” Heather said.
“Hey, leave him alone, Heather. I am actually flattered that he wanted to spend time with me.” Taylor said and just like that, Heather was back to last night when she was being ordered around by her older sister.
“Yes ma’am.” Heather said before even thinking about it
What the hell was happening to her. She had no idea why she was following her sister’s orders when they were not in the bedroom, but for some reason, it felt natural. Taylor gave her an almost invisible smirk, knowing that she had that sort of power over her sister.
Zack looked between them wondering what was going on. It wasn’t like Heather to give into anyone like that. It just wasn’t in her nature. Robert and Monica also had an interest in what was going on there, since they knew that wasn’t how Heather normally was.
Heather was now blushing slightly, since everyone was looking at her. She couldn’t take it so she went back to her normal personality. “What are all of you looking at? Is it so weird that I didn’t want to start a fight with my sister on her last day here?” Heather asked, as she looked over at Taylor, who mouthed to her, “Good save.”
“Good point. So, anything fun happening at school when you get back?” Robert asked, finally inserting himself into the conversation.
“Not much. Just have to finish up some homework for later in the week. This week seems like it will be an easier week since I had some tests last week.” Taylor said and Robert nodded, remembering what it was like with business classes in college.
“So, this is one of the weeks where you will get to have more fun?” Heather asked.
“Some, yes. I am not really into the party scene all that much, but I do attend some, just for the experience.” Taylor said.
“You and Zack should have been twins. You two are no fun.” Heather said with a pout on her face.
“Hey, I know how to have fun.” Zack and Taylor said at the same time.
“See, you two even think the same.” Heather said with a smirk on her face and the rest of the family couldn’t help but laugh as well.
“I guess you have a point. Zack and I do have a lot in common.” Taylor said as she pulled her brother close and put her arm around his shoulders.
Zack smiled at his older sister and looked over at Heather who stuck her tongue out at them. Zack and Taylor laughed at Heather antics and then the conversation started back up.
“So, what do you guys have planned around here?” Taylor asked.
“Well, other than soccer and cheering, Zack and I don’t have much time for anything else other than doing homework.” Heather said.
“Yeah. I guess that makes sense. What about you, mom and dad?” Taylor asked.
“Well, other than work and going to watch soccer games. I don’t have much time for anything else, although we do find time to go out with some of the other couples at least once a month.” Monica said.
“We have a few things going on at the resort in the next couple of weeks. Nothing big. Just something that will hopefully bring in some more guests.” Robert said.
“That sounds interesting. I am glad that things seem to be going well at the resort.” Taylor said.
“You’re just interested because you want to make sure that it is still there when you graduate.” Robert said with a smirk on his face and Taylor just smiled back at him and shrugged.
“Well, at least I am interested in the family business and keeping it alive.” Taylor said.
“You have nothing to worry about. The resort will be waiting for you and it will be there long after you are gone as well.” Robert said and Taylor nodded as she looked back at her brother.
“Are you looking forward to being a part of the business?” Taylor asked.
“I am. Maybe not as much as you are, but I am looking forward to it.” Zack said.
“Well, I am looking forward to following in mom’s footsteps. I even get to see a real birth next week.” Heather said.
“Mom told me about that. That should be interesting.” Taylor said.
“Childbirth is a beautiful thing. I am glad that at least one of you is interested in this my job.” Monica said.
“It’s not that I am not interested in your job, mom. It’s just that I am more interested in other things.” Taylor said.
“I know sweetie. I want you to follow your heart when it comes to picking what you want to do with your life. That is all I can ask for as a parent.” Monica said.
“Your mother is right. As long as you kids are happy, so are we.” Robert said.
“That makes sense. So, what time do you have to leave?” Heather asked her sister.
“I have a couple of more hours. I should be getting back to campus with enough time to settle in before I need to head off to bed.” Taylor said.
“That’s kind of a rush, isn’t it? I would like to have some time to relax if I were in your position.” Heather said.
“Well, I had to pick between relaxation or seeing my family. I chose to see my family.” Taylor said.
“And we are glad you did. It was quite the surprise, you showing up at my game like you did.” Zack said.
“I thought it would be fun just to show up. It was great to see the team win as well.” Taylor said.
“It was certainly an entertaining game.” Monica said.
“Heather, it also looks like you have the cheer squad running at top notch.” Taylor said and Heather smiled back at her.
“Of course, I do. It runs in my blood.” Heather said looking over at her mother, who was also the cheer captain when she was Heather’s age.
“I am just sorry that you weren’t interested in it as well.” Monica said, looking at Taylor.
“Yeah, I just didn’t see the appeal. I had other things on my mind at the time.” Taylor said.
“Yeah, not fun things.” Heather said with a smirk and Taylor stuck her tongue out at her younger sister.
“There is nothing wrong with wanting to get good grades.” Robert said.
“I get good grades and I do both.” Heather said.
“Yeah, I do the same with soccer and my school work, but I am not going to bother Taylor with this since each of us is different and have different interests.” Zack said.
“Good point. I’m just sorry you have to leave so soon.” Heather said as she looked at her sister.
“Don’t worry. I will be back soon for Halloween. I think you can live that long without me.” Taylor said and everyone in the room nodded.
They continued to talk and hangout until it was time for Taylor to leave. They all gave each other hugs and then she was off to go back to college. Now that Taylor was gone, everything seemed to go back to normal. The twins went to work on their homework for the next day and Robert and Monica went to get things ready for work the next day. Soon enough it was time for them all to go to sleep and wake up again to start a new week.
