Abby Interlude

For Abby Greene, the last day of the semester had been nothing special. Sure she had weird feelings all day, like someone had been touching her or kissing her, however she had been having these feelings all during midterms, and assumed they were jitters from this.

She did notice a few students she usually saw around were missing, but figured they went on vacation early or had some other arrangement. What she wasn’t expecting was that two of them would elope together.

“What?” Abby asked when she got the Facebook notification on her phone. It was Avery Scott announcing her engagement to Jason Quill of all people.

Looking into the post further, she saw a picture if the two of them in what was clearly New York City, and top of what appeared to be the Empire State Building. They were both dressed in winter clothes and Jason was on one knee holding a ring, while Avery had her hands over her mouth in shock.

“Huh, good for her I guess”, Abby thought to herself. Had she looked closer, she would have noticed the blank look that was in both Avery’s and Jason’s eyes.

Looking through the comments, she saw some angry reactions from what appeared to be Avery’s family members. As looked further into the post, she saw that she and Jason would both be dropping out of school and moving to California.

As more and more reactions came in, Abby decided that was enough for now and moved on to the next topic that was now coming up in her mind rather frequently. That of Mark Donovan.

The redhead didn’t know what had happened. She had literally just two weeks ago turned him down when he had asked her out, now he was the only thing sue seemingly could think about.

Had she made a mistake turning him down?

Suddenly Abby’s thoughts are interrupted by a knock at her door. Normally she would hate this, but for right now, she welcomed the distraction.

“Hey, are you busy”, Abby’s mom Deliah asked as she poked her head inside.

“No, no, I’m not. What’s up?” Abby responded, trying to hide why she was glad to have this conversation.

“OK, good. I just wanted to let you know our…uh…supplier is coming by this afternoon. So you know the drill…”

“Yeah, yeah… be out of the house while your mule boss is here to drop off some coke.”

“Abigall Lynn Greene!” her mother said with a stern voice. “You know why I don’t like you using those terms.”

“Yeah, I know, I know, plausible deniability.”

“We insist you don’t use those words because we love you.”

“And because then I would have to testify against you.” Her mom gave her a stink eye. “Sorry.”

Abby’s Mom reached down and hugged her. “You know we don’t have a choice in the mater, and we were left with no other viable option.”

Abby sighs. “I know… I just wish…”

“Me too sweetie, me too.” Her mom looked the red head in the eyes for a few moments before changing the subject. “So, what do you want for dinner.”

“Honestly, I feel like pizza.”

Her mom gave a slight smile at this. “You know, I agree. Do you want Hawaiian or Peperoni.”

“Hawaiian please”, Abby said, finding the clashing flavors exciting.

“I’ll make the call”, her Mom said before leaving and closing the door behind her.

Abby sighed. She loved her parents, but wished they had a different career. However there was nothing she could do about it, and plus she’s heading off to college in the summer, so it won’t be her concern anymore. Now she just had to figure out her feelings for Mark Donovan.
