Chapter 24

Evening training
Some night air never hurt
I stirred awake late that night. High above I could see the moon shining down on the world around me. I roll onto my other side and peer into the dark hut. Across the room I can barely see Miss Loroni asleep in her bed. In the silence, however, I can hear it clearly. Thank Eros for a heightened sense of hearing. Love listening to an old woman sleep at night. I push myself off of the bed and do my best to remain quiet. Thankfully it doesn't take long before I'm able to sneak outside and get a full view of the heavens above. A truly countless amount of stars high in the sky. Though I don't recognize any of the constellations.
Colors far too bright to be anything that my mind can't truly fathom it all. With no light pollution it's nearly too much for me to really take in. I can see everything for as far as the cosmos allows. I couldn't tell if it was due to the alterations to my body, or just the purely incredible sight, but the stars looked like... more. Brighter, more stunning, the colors were more vibrant. Even the moon seemed to glow with a different sense of beauty. Without the light blocking out my sight I could see everything and more. Thank Eros, for my gifted sight.
As I walked through the dark village I spent most of my time adjusting to the way my eyes seemed to work. I focused trying to make them adjust. The same way I had focused on the heat from before. The same that brought forth the magic electricity. Instead I tried to channel it upwards. It took some time, I can't guess how long, and it didn't come without a headache. After a while however I felt the same 'pop' as earlier. As if the energy had broken yet another dam. This time however the power focused on my eyes alone.
In an instant the world filled with light. Brighter than anything I'd ever seen before. As if I was staring through a filtered lens. More color and brighter than my mind could take in. After some time of complete shock I realized what I was seeing. It wasn't just some kind of night vision. No, this wasn't some green filtered camera trick. I was seeing the world through an ultraviolet lens. That's why my brain couldn't take it. Why it felt as if it was splitting apart. I was staring at colors far beyond it's ability to fathom. I can't even begin to describe them. This wasn't some mix of blue and red, no yellows and greens. Whatever I was staring at, was so far above me that I couldn't begin to understand it. Eros had done more than just give me some sort of night vision. He'd completely transformed my ability to see.
I looked up towards the sky and the my lungs failed to breath. Where once sat a dark and endless sky dotted with twinkling lights, now... now it was something so much more. Where once sat countless stars of white and now shown nothing but storms of prismatic like lights. Each star giving off it's own torrent of stunning beautiful displays. Something so incredible that I could never hope to convey it's view. I stared up into the heavens for what felt like an eternity. What felt like it'd never end. What I wished never did. Finally I **** myself to look away as the pain in my brain became too much. What was originally a dull throb had become an crushing agony.
After a few moments of staring into the still mesmerizing grass I was finally able to **** the energy back down. I **** it back to where it had come from. As I did the lights faded from the world and I was able to look around without my head trying to split apart. With the energy dispersed the pain departed soon after. I was back to walking through the village before too long. The night sky still moving along slowly above me, with the moon only a few marks past it's peak. Though back in the dark I managed to push on into the forest. I was careful to keep myself within sight of the village. I managed to find a small clearing within the woods. Maybe a hundred feet in all directions. A good size, but nothing like in those fantasy novels. It was peaceful though, no animals, no beasts, and the moon continued to bathe light down on the space. Perfect to get a little more battle oriented.
With either of my blades drawn I tried to focus the energy once again. My broken sword and the unused dagger started to slowly hum in my hands. As if they were vibrating. No, they were vibrating. The electricity was trying to burst through to cover them in the same power, but seemed unable to follow through. Rather it seemed more as if there wasn't enough energy to do it. For the next while I kept trying until I felt the same dam that had stopped me before. The same barrier that had stopped me before. I pushed against it. Fought to break through. I did my damndest to shatter another wall before it became too much. Rather than breaking through my head exploded sending me down to my knees.
I dropped each of my weapons as the pain in my head persisted for what felt like the next hour. "Fuck..." I said to myself in the woes of a throbbing pain. As it finally receded I **** myself back to my feet. I decided not to push it too far, this time just trying to replicate the skill. With only my sword drawn I held it out stretched before me. As I brought the power back out I felt no dam or barrier stopping me. This time it flowed through my arm and sheathed the broken sword in flashing lightning. Far too bright to be used without warning. Even knowing it was coming it almost acted like a flash bang in the night.
I managed to keep it under control and even hone the static so that it was a more refined shape. At the tip it was nearly three feet of lightening. The next question I had caused me to swallow the lump in my throat. With my free hand I reached out and ran my hand through the blade. As I hoped, my hand simply went through without an issue. Though it did feel warm to the touch. The next thing I noticed, was that my hair had begun to stand on end. Not too surprising given the static power, it did bring a laugh out of me though. Another reason I'd need a hair cut.
Raising my hand to the sky I tried to channel the power, to send it out. Rather than fire out like some kind of bolt the sword simply became erratic. I could feel the same dam that had stopped me before. I decided to take that as a good sign. Proof that it was possible, and that I was just too weak to pull it off.
Turning to my next point I swung my blade through the grass at my feet. At first it burned into the ground. Setting the grass on fire. Which, to absolutely no surprise, sent me to start stomping on the burning grass until finally it all died out. I had hoped that I could control what it burnt. Similar to how it didn't affect me. With that marked off as a failure, I decided to switch arms.
I slid my broken weapon back into it's sheath and drew the dagger on the other side. The single edged dagger wasn't anything to marvel at. With the same focus the simple blade became sheathed in static. It was significantly smaller than the sword, but with a bit of thought it actually began to bend and reshape itself. Shifting from an elongated dagger shape it became a hook, then an axe. Finally I was able to actually hook it into a dual sided blade. While the dagger was smaller, for some reason I was able to actually manipulate the shape of the lightening, instead of just making a sword. Seeing that different weapons gave me different ways to shift the lightening gave me more than a few exciting ideas for the future. Would bows allow me to fire focused bolts? Would a spear let me fire it as if it were shot out of a cannon? What would a full on pistol do?
Crashing down into the grass I continued to stare up into the sky. The power usage had taken it out of me. Something I would have to work on. I didn't know if it was a matter of building up power, or simply harnessing it better, or maybe it was because I had pushed my limits so many times in less than twenty-four hours. Regardless, I had work to get to the point where I could reliably use the gifts I'd been given. Before I knew it my body had drifted off into another short rest. This time only a few hours. I woke up as the sun began to slowly rise into the sky.
Cleaning up and farewells
