"Yes you do," she rolls her eyes, "Everyone does. People pretend that they don't, but they're lying. People who say that shit are always lying.

"It's a basic part of human sociology. We evolved to seek the approval of peers and it may not be healthy but it's definitely the truth. We need to be near others, we need friends and family, to keep us happy.

"And right now? Today? You've got no one. No one but yourself and whatever person pities you enough to deign to give you some attention. You are utterly alone here because you've made it clear to everyone here just what kind of person you are. Just what kind of man you are."

He shakes his head, "Over one little joke."

"No," she smiles sadly, clearly convinced that he's missing the point, "Because you chose to pick on someone because you knew they wouldn't fight back. Because you misread the situation and thought they were higher on the social ladder than you so you could. And because you thought that by putting them down, you'd raise yourself in other's eyes. Because of your intention, more than your action.

"You fucked up, Blake. Now you see it, or if you don't see it now you'll see it soon. You're lowest on the ladder here, at the very bottom. You weren't exactly high up before because every single girl in this group spied you checking them out and calculating your move and none of us want to be stared at like we're a piece of meat ready for butchering.

"And you want to fix this and I know that you do. And I'm pretty sure you're not ready, but when you are I've got a piece of advice for you."

Blake laughs, playing it out to the crowd who isn't responding at all. Rolling his eyes and shaking his head while he responds.

"This should be good.

"Just be nice," she says, "Just be kind. Just think before you open that beautiful mouth of yours. Just think, for just one minute, and ask yourself why you're doing or saying something. Make sure that you're doing it for the right reasons. Not just to build yourself up. Not because you're selfish. Not because you think it'll benefit you. But because you think it needs to be said, and because you think the world will be better off for it."

She sighs, long and slow, and shakes her head. Turning she walks away, stopping for a pause a moment later and then turning back for her parting shot.

"If you're not adding to the world, you're subtracting. If you're not benefitting other people, then you're of no use to anyone."
