Chapter 151 by CaptainPulse

What does he find?

A red sequined suit

Hanging on a rack in the back room was the tackiest outfit L'Abbee had ever seen. A white dress shirt, black bow tie, and shiny white dress shoes weren't out of the ordinary for the job description. The most noticeable aspect was the matching red pants and suit vest, covered from top to bottom in ruby sequins. A matching top top hat sat on a stool next to them, like one of those castle town bards making heaps of money out east. L'Abbee had worn ostentatious clothes before, but they had usually been women's clothes. So wearing a sparkly suit was a bit out of his comfort zone. Still, beggars couldn't be choosers, especially naked beggars.

L'Abbee lifted up the vest, noting that beneath the sequins, the fabric was quite elastic. It wasn't the softest material he'd ever felt, but it was certainly preferable to what he'd been feeling the past couple of days. He slipped off the bathrobe, a small cloud of dust coming off as it hit the ground, and began to slip on the trousers. They had seemed small in his hands, but when he was actually wearing them, they ended up fitting him perfectly. He smirked as he turned around to look at his behind, thinking how Tina would react to his, heh, well-framed assets.

Slipping on his shoes and buttoning his vest over the dress shirt, the drow couldn't help but think he looked too much like a two-bit swindler. Granted, that's more or less what he was, but this made things a bit obvious. He only hoped his acting skills hadn't rusted over too much since he left Patty's crew, otherwise this gig might not last.

A door creaked behind him, and L'Abbee turned to see Zed, wearing a similar outfit, walking out of a storage room. "Oh, you actually showed up."

"Well, yeah. I'm kinda short on options at the moment."

Zed picked up a small crate in the corner and chuckled. "Fair point. Still, I'm glad you're here. We can get to work."

L'Abbee took one last look in the mirror. "Do you mean our boss's work or our work?"

Zed handed his coworker the crate. "The former, for now. But we'll get to the other later." He opened the door to the main floor. "Just follow me."

L'Abbee sighed and followed the young human back into the gambling hall. It was noticeably empty, as the building's owner and the undressed woman were inexplicably absent, though the embarrassed whimpers and squeals from outside told him at least where she had gone. "What's in this crate, anyway?" L'Abbee asked, noting to himself how light it was. It felt like he was carrying a box of air.

"Stuff for the card tables. It's enchanted stuff, I don't really understand it. Supposedly the boss got it from somewhere up north; a lot of rich wizards up there." Patty's crew had performed raids in the elven domains to the north, so L'Abbee could confirm that much. Whatever was in this box, it had to be impressive for it to be shipped all this way. "Over here." Zed pointed to a wide rectangular table by the wall, half-constructed and missing a leg. "I'll be finishing this today, so for now, your job will be..."

What will L'Abbee do?
