Selena looked around nervously as they lowered the lifeboat, but there was nobody around. The crew were too busy readying to rescue Marco.
Once the lifeboat was lowered, Selena and Varga pushed it away from the ship, the waves gently rocking it. Varga retrieved his sword and placed it in the bottom of the boat, next to a few supplies they'd managed to pilfer. Selena watched as he expertly maneuvered the lifeboat away from the ship, keeping a careful eye for crew members above.
As they rowed further from the ship, Selena couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and guilt. Relief, because they had managed to escape the clutches of the twisted captain, and guilt, because they had left Marco to die in the unforgiving sea. He might have treated her badly, but he was still her cousin, and his mind had been poisoned by Giuliette.
"Do you think he can swim?" Selena asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Varga shook his head. "He’ll be fine, the crew will save him. But as long as we keep moving, we should be safe."
Selena squeezed the oars tightly, her heart still pounding from the intensity of their escape. “What if the crew has already found him? What if they’re after us right now?”
“They’ll never find us in this fog.”
Selena nodded, trying to convince herself of Varga's words. She looked back at the ship, now a faint speck on the horizon. The tension and anxiety she had felt for days was replaced by a sense of liberation and freedom.
As they moved further from the ship, Selena began to wonder what their next move should be. She glanced at Varga, who appeared just as lost in thought, his expression stoic and focused.
"Where do we go from here?" she finally asked, her voice barely a whisper in the wind.
“I guess we have two options: we either leave Hellsmere forever…” Varga sighed, “or we return, and confront Giuliette, alone, with no help.”
