Leeloo gets a Dark N Stormy, you try to serenade the pants off them.

Mona laughs when Leeloo orders a Dark N Stormy after all.

"What," Mona's redheaded friend says. "I go drinking at the Man Friday, and I'm going to order anything else?"

Mona sips her cola.

"It's a new world for you, Mona Corona," Leeloo says. "I woulda guessed N.A. beer if you're staying off the sauce."

"I didn't always drink beer with you," Mona says. "And N.A.?" Mona shrugs. "I dunno, I think it looks weird to have a bottle of Pretend I'm Having Fun at a singles' bar, I'd rather have a drink that could be ****."

Leeloo lets out a deep belly laugh. "Why would you care what people think?" she says. "That's a terrible way to choose what you're drinking. I'll buy you a N.A., and if you don't like it, Joe can drink it."

You bite your tongue. You've got every reason not to complain at Leeloo if you want you both to get lucky tonight, and you hope that's what she still wants. You've had non-**** beer, you've even had it on the job. It tastes fine, and you're the designated driver anyway.

Mona and Leeloo sign up on the karaoke list. Heck, your voice isn't half bad, maybe you can serenade the pants off them. It's not like you're opposed to a surprise girls' night out for Mona and her friend, but with all the back and forth about Mona texting Leeloo a dick pic of you, and Leeloo's admitted cock hunger and dry spell, you were kind of thinking things would have moved more horizontal sooner.

But it's Mona's party, and you're Mona's party gift to Leeloo, and it's a good test for you to be a good sport, whenever your number comes up tonight, or even if it doesn't.

Flexibility is the key to opportunity. You've tried to talk Karen Yoshida into scheduling her pool cleaning appointments on Thursday afternoons, so you get a nice double hump on those weeks. It's not like you're out chasing tail these days, if you're getting a little bit of Mona every week and a little bit of Karen pretty regular, and once in a while a bit of Mona's boss Rowan when she gets a rebellious craving to be a bad lesbian and take some dick. Hopefully a little bit of Leeloo tonight. So if Mona is gonna throw pussy at you like that, hell, maybe you should just marry her.

You hope she says yes, and that part of your vows are renewing your open relationship agreement.

But you probably need a better job before she's gonna say yes.

You scan down the karaoke song list for a song that would work for you and maybe impress Mona and Leeloo, or at least make them laugh. Sixteen Tons, that's the ticket.

The karaoke hostess warns you that the music doesn't help you keep on time, and asks if you want an easier tune, but you're gonna go for it.

Leeloo and Mona share singing back and forth on "Nine To Five" that gets applause and cheers from the audience, and then Leeloo does a solo of "Shake it Off" that gets cheers and whistles, maybe because of how she jiggles while she's dancing around and singing the tune.

A couple of other folks go forward with songs, a solo gal and a duet who seem to have practiced their song to perfection.

Then it's you and "Sixteen Tons".

One fist of iron and one fist of steel, but even with tapping your foot to what you think is the rhythm, you just get lost in where the next phrase starts, and the hostess has to call it.

You get a few words of consolation from the crowd and a hug from Leeloo, "Hey Joe, I bet we could do a duet," she says. She hurries to sign you both up while there's still space in the karaoke hostess's set. You, Mona, and Leeloo find a table and Leeloo buys another round -- a Dark N Stormy, a NA beer which Mona decides she doesn't mind the look or the taste of, and another coffee for you. Mona and Leeloo chatter back and forth, catching up on things. When your turn comes up, Leeloo drags you over, checks over the microphones, and gives the hostess a 'go!' sign. You and Leeloo trade off verses of "The Power of Love", with you acting out some of the lyrics, to the cheers and laughter of the crowd, and finally taking a bow together.

"That's the way, Joe, that's the way," Leeloo says, slapping you on the back. Your eyes snap open at the thud of her palm. Leeloo doesn't know her own strength, or maybe two Dark N Stormys have dissolved her ability to judge a back-slap. "You just gotta pick a song that works for you and sing the hell out of it."

Mona grins behind her redheaded friend's shoulder, but doesn't quite roll her eyes.

"Right on, Leeloo," you say, your back tingling from her slaps. You don't want to be on the wrong side of her if she ever gets mad. Hopefully Mona's been a good influence on her friend since they met in a holding cell for being in the midst of a drunken brawl in the parking lot of The Man Friday, this very bar.
