Chapter 20

Can they run away?
Yes. Maybe. Probably.
They pierced the void of Space with incredible speed. For Mark, it felt like he was sitting in a small box that was barely big enough to contain him, and with each second the box was getting even smaller. His bones ached, he felt a splitting pain in his skull, his eyes shut, but somehow he could still see the constellations of stars, nebulas, new and dying worlds, remnants of great civilizations and ones that were just shaping. His fists were clenched, his feet somehow found themselves underneath him, and he was sitting in a weird, uncomfortable position.
“-ate?”
Mark finally finished the sentence when everything came back to normal. He felt like his stomach was violently protesting even against swallowing his own saliva.
“Y-yeah. We just did… It.” The alien woman's voice was shaken, but otherwise fine.
Mark wanted to pull off his mask, but she stopped him with her hand.
“Don’t, we will ne-ahem-ed the full suits soon.”
“Are we going through another O-gate?” He asked, concerned.
“Fuck no, we can’t do that for ano-ther quarter of a cycle without becoming a smear on the fabric of cosmos.” The red skinned woman cleared her throat. “We’ll need them for another part of my plan.”
“Which is…?” Mark asked suspiciously.
“I’ll explain in time.” She quickly said. “Sandanians are still on our tails, but their travel through O-gate will take a bit longer than ours. Their ship is much heavier that ours, so we will have a few moments to prepare. We’re already close to Cirrus, I’ll pull us up to the planet.”
Kaliasi must have fired some additional thrusters, or got their engine into the second gear, because this time Mark actually felt the motion of the ship. Or maybe it was a side effect from jumping through the aforementioned O-gate. He made a mental note to ask or research how exactly do those work. And who built them.
"Hey, how come you are so calm about this? No panic, no rash decisions, your plan is like calmly and perfectly thought out." Mark asked, sending the alien woman a smile.
"Oh, I'm panicking a lot actually. But I pumped myself with stuff that lowers stress levels back when we were starting this ship, so I'm cruising right now."
She responded with a hazy smile.
"Hang on a sec… Are you on ****?"
Is she?
