In the middle of your conversation, the secretary, Ms. Delilah, appears like a ghost. “Good morning, Peter,” she says, twitching her head like a bird. “Good first night? Settled? Rested?”
Everyone looks startled by her sudden appearance. Well, at least you and Nate. Jess looks ‘plussed’ as usual. “It was good,” you say, glancing at Nate. Beyond that, you struggle for words.
“Excellent. Marvelous,” Ms. Delilah says, clasping her hands. “If I recall, your first course is Shakespearean Literature?” She grins and quotes, “Coral is far more red than her lips' red.”
Ah, right. Her obsession with the color red. “Yes, ma’am,” you say. “Jess said she’d walk me to the classroom.” Ms. Delilah turns and slightly bows in appreciation. “Jessica, always a mentor.”
Then the secretary clears her throat. “Dr. Theodore might be your Headmaster, but he also makes an excellent teacher,” Ms. Delilah says, patting your shoulder. “He’s eager to meet you.”
And then she walks off. You, Nate, and Jess wait for her to completely disappear. “Weirdo,” Nate says. “But at least she has great tits.” Jess rolls her eyes and throws a cucumber slice at him.
