Chapter 8 by Trom1806 Trom1806

You decide that the most effective way to solve the problem is...

Take the book and cast a spell that involves influencing extraplanar entities.

You mentally reason: “We need something very... powerful. Something that is guaranteed to solve the problem! A solution must be found as quickly as possible!”

You quickly start flipping through the book.

The rustle of pages. Many small signs before your eyes. Complex diagrams of magical artifacts. Verbose theoretical paragraphs of text. Formulas. Some symbols and words you don’t understand at all.

But the sections of the book are compiled according to the principle “from easy to difficult.”

Therefore, you try to find the most powerful spell at the end of each section devoted to a specific branch of the magical arts. A spell that is guaranteed to help you.

Unfortunately, you haven't been able to find anything suitable yet. After all, you need to remove the magical paralysis from Patrick’s body, and not engulf his body in a powerful stream of flame that will reduce his flesh to a pile of ash.

You are almost in despair when you find something useful in the section dedicated to extraplanar summonization.

You have difficulty reading the text, understanding only some of the symbols and formulas.

But you realize the main thing: the summoned creature will clearly be able to remove the magical paralysis from Patrick.

You think: “I am a lucky and talented guy. I have a high chance of successfully applying the knowledge gained from this rare magical book. I won't let doubt and fear stop me. The problem with Patrick needs to be resolved. I'm not a coward like Alfred. I will solve the problem!”

You begin to slowly perform the preparatory ritual.

You need something sharp...

It's good to have a small kitchen knife in your nightstand. Only now it won’t be bread that you have to cut with a knife...

Alfred sees all this and... he even stopped crying out of fear. Now he’s just shaking all over, covered with a blanket.

A circle of drops of your own blood. Drops of blood on the floor. You are in the center of the circle, reading the words of the spell in a monotonous voice.

Your pronunciation leaves much to be desired.

You have difficulty pronouncing complex phrases with elements of Old Orlanian dialect and interspersed with Elvish words.

However, you try.

Your body feels a growing wave of strange energy. It’s as if many small and sharp needles are pricking every part of your body.

The first gesture of your hands. Redirecting the flow of magical energy.

Your right palm is almost numb.

Second gesture. Concentration of flows in the direction of the aura.

The fingers of your left palm begin to tremble convulsively.

Third gesture. Opening of the extraplanar communication channel.

The sound of your voice seems somehow strange and even... unfamiliar to you.

But you continue to monotonously repeat the words of the spell.

Your gaze is fixed on the book.

You repeat the words of a powerful magic spell over and over again...

It seems that even if you wanted to suddenly stop it, you wouldn’t be able to...

It’s as if some powerful will is pushing you in every possible way to continue...

Out of the corner of your eye, you notice that drops of your blood on the floor are beginning to emit a strange crimson glow...

There is a growing heaviness inside your head...

Strange dark gray smoke fills the room. Plumes of smoke envelop you like a large tropical snake wrapping itself around its prey.

Your roommate Alfred, with eyes distraught due to horror, looks out from under the blanket...

He says in a whisper: “Jorin... Perhaps you should stop this?”

Suddenly his face... freezes. It was as if he too had become a victim of paralysis.

The dark gray smoke is so thick that you can hardly see the objects in front of you.

The silhouette of Patrick's body is only partially visible, despite the fact that you are standing only about five meters away from him.

So, you can clearly see external changes in the situation in the room. It's... scary. Do you need to continue the ritual? Or should you try to interrupt it?
