Chapter 15 by Purveyor_of_Sin Purveyor_of_Sin

Who does he go see first?

Stanley Buchman and the Ring

Daniel decided to go after the closer target, since it was now late afternoon and the sun would soon be setting. According to John the pawn shop owner's list, Stanley Buchman had bought the College Football Ring. God only knew what abilities it had given him. So far, all the people who had received one of Joseph Hunter's strange items had abused the power given to them. One, Edward Jewel, had gone on a rampage, killing over thirty innocent people; the other, Henry Hunter, Joseph Hunter's own son, had used to to do who knows what to the women around him. Daniel still didn't know what object he had, since the pawn shop's list didn't include him. He could only guess that the mother, Penelope, had picked up one of the things, perhaps something innocuous like a pen or slip of paper, and took it home with her.

The detective hopped into Jim's car, then turned on the ignition. He pulled the map from his suit jacket's pocket, spreading it out over the steering wheel. He then thought of Buchman's address, focusing it into his mind before looking down at the paper. The policeman smiled when the familiar red circle appeared; it looks like his theory about one of the pawn shop items blocking the others' powers was true. He'd deal with that later, though. Right now he had to get that ring.

Daniel arrived at the address about fifteen minutes later. Unfortunately, he was in front of a large, vacant lot. It seems that Mr. Buchman wasn't very honest when he gave the pawn shop his address. Wonderful.

The detective took out his cellphone and dialed the number for his precinct, then asked the operator to transfer him to one of the clerks he knew.

"Chavez," came the bored voice over the line.

"Hey, it's me, Sihn," Daniel said.

"Yo, Danny boy!" Chavez greeted with a laugh. He always thought that was funny for some strange reason. "What's up? Aren't you supposed to be on vacation?"

"I am," Daniel told him. "Listen, can you run a name for me?"

"Sure, what do you got?"

Daniel told him Buchman's full name and phone number.

"That all you got? That ain't much, Danny boy."

Of course, the computers didn't come up with anything. Daniel thanked Chavez and hung up, all the while feeling incredibly frustrated.

He then looked at the map, which was still spread out over the steering wheel. Daniel frowned, wondering. So far, the map had lead him to locations that he thought about. Could it also find people he was looking for?

The detective decided to give it a shot, after all what could he lose? He thought of the name Stanley Buchman, focused long and hard on it, then looked down at the map. He almost screamed with elation when the red circle appeared, pointing the way.

Daniel drove to the location circled on the map, which lead him into one of the less than ideal locales of Miami. It was a pretty seedy neighborhood, one that local gangs had been fighting over for years. He pulled up in front of the ramshackle house that just screamed crack house. Sadly, it was the house that the map said Buchman was located in.

"Things just keep getting better and better," the detective muttered to himself before getting out of the car.

What does he find inside?
