Knowing how bad her situation is, Lux begins to cast an invisibility spell, hoping to get the upper hand once the bandits can’t see her. But the moment she does, she feels dizzy – something is very wrong. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees that one of the bandits is holding a strange metal device that glows as she tries to cast her spell, and – sure enough – she remains stubbornly visible.

The confusion costs Lux vital seconds as the bandits make their move. Two of them manage to grab her and hold her still long enough for the one holding the device to place it around her neck, like a collar. She hears a loud click as it clamps on, painfully tight, and with a sinking feeling in her stomach she senses all of her magic being somehow drained away…
