Chapter 1265

What do you do?
Give the signal.
You slice your blade down through the air and yell, "Fire!" as loudly as you can.
Tom is a decent shot, and he's only gotten better. From his bow, he unleashes arrow after arrow, and even when his quiver is empty, he grabs more from a barrel nearby. A few sink into the brutes up front, though they seem extremely durable. One even takes out a gremlin, which is a difficult shot. After realizing arrows do little to those in the front, he arms farther back, hoping to perhaps even take out a mage. Though just before one hands, the mage in question raises their staff and projects a spectral barrier that causes the shot to plink away as if it hit solid stone.
Snow, however, is exceptional. Her eyes focus, and she moves almost like a machine. With her new magic bow in-hand, she nocks and fires arrow after arrow from the opposite end of the massive gate. One hits a demonic brute in the eye, and while he doesn't fall, he starts stumbling around, which also forces the two gremlins on his shoulder to abandon ship. She catches on quickly to their durability, however, and opts to begin taking out the gremlins before they can cause trouble. One. Two. Three. Already, she scores a triple kill streak despite the targets being so tiny and distant. She then hatches an idea.
From her quiver, she withdraws one of Mistress Dajy's special heart arrows. Nocking it in her bow, she draws the string back, aims it down towards the army, and fires.
It seems the brutes don't care to dodge or block, but that's a critical weakness as well. It lands right in the center one's stomach. It stops, nearly causing the others to trip. Then it turns, faces its ally, and brings its hands to the side of its cheek with a big smile on its face. "My loooove~!" It tackles the other down, forcing two more gremlins to leap away in confusion.
"Magic Bolt!" Eva shouts multiple times over. "Magic Bolt!" Each time, she swings her staff and lets loose a blast of magic towards those below. They aren't close enough yet for her more powerful spells. After a moment, she lowers her wand and knees behind the battlement, opting to save her mana for when the army nears the gate.
Vivi, however, plants her foot down on the edge, not at all caring about the shortness of her skirt. She raises both hands up in the air with teeth clenched before shouting out, "Breiah! Sister! If you're out there somewhere, you follow the wrong Demon King, but I will not hold back!" As she maneuvers her wrists above, mana crackles up her body and forms into a spell. "I am Vivilia, the great witch, and I won't tolerate this intrusion. Take this! Hand of Gaia!"
Much to your amazement, the mountainside adjacent to the middle of the army explodes. Not only that, but something bursts forth. All the stony soil and solid rock shape themselves into a massive hand. The arm of it stretches out as if the mountain itself is reaching forwards, and it's on-track to crush nearly have of those approaching. It rises up, and with fingers extended, throws itself down with a mighty slap, all while Vivi does the same motion with her own.
Once, and then quickly after, twice, an explosion shakes the hand of stone. The attacks are coming from the mages in the back. However, it's not quite enough. Then Lord Vraelion finally enters the fray. He soars down from above like a hunting falcon. With the weight of his body and the speed of his flight, he crashes into Vivi's spell with enough strength to throw it back against the side of the mountain. It's an arm-wrestling competition now, and it's hard to tell who's winning, though by the looks of Vivi's own trembling hand, it doesn't look good.
They're getting closer. As they do, you notice the goblins wield crossbows, and as soon as they're able, they fire them straight up towards Tom and Snow, forcing them to duck for cover. Behind them, of course Eva does as well, though it looks like Vivi is far too distracted by her battle with Lord Vraelion in the distance.
"Get down!" you command as you grab onto Vivi's sides from behind.
"N-No... I can... win this!" she grunts. Then she screams. One of the bolts lands right in her shoulder. The moment it does, her hand of stone crumbles to bits, and she falls back into her arms.
"Vivi!" you shout with concern. Quickly, you hoist her up bridal style and leap off the edge back towards your frontliners. With the magic of your Boots of Herbes, you land with ease. "Are you okay?" you ask. "Vivi, are you--"
"I'm fine," she responds. "I've been hurt worse than this. Remember, I'm a lot older than you."
You place her down next to Amara. Without even the need to say a word, the elf takes hold of her and gives you a nod.
Then you turn your head up to see bolts of flame soaring overhead. "Shit. Archers and mages, fall back! Get off the walls!"
