Better than Blue but you lose, too

You enter this battle cautiously, armed with the knowledge of how easily Blue's Squirtle lost its battle just a moment ago. Instead of wasting all of Charmander's energy on an all out attack you tell it to be more defensive, watching Golbat's behavior to look for any openings.

After several minutes of tense standoff you suddenly command Charmander to send out several Embers in waves. As the fire flies up to Golbat it can't possibly dodge all of them, **** to take a couple hits to its ugly face before swooping down lower to the ground. Now that you have demonstrated the range advantage is less helpful against your pokemon than against Blue's, your opponent has seemingly decided that obscuring Golbat's movements in the tall grass will be better.

The battle falls into slow stalemate again, with both of you trying to move your pokemon into an advantageous position to attack. Both of you take it slow, waiting patiently for the perfect moment to strike, until suddenly your opponent commands Golbat to charge Charmander. This takes both you and your partner by surprise and Golbat lands its Bite before either of you can react. Before Golbat can retreat again, you instruct Charmander to slash it with an Iron Claw, which lands just before it can get away.

This slow back-and-forth continues for several minutes, with you and Charmander staying vigilant, ready to react to every attack from the enemy. Sometimes Charmander connects with a hit and sometimes it's Golbat whose attack strikes true, but every interaction does damage to someone. In this fashion the long-winded battle slowly marches to its conclusion. The outcome remains uncertain until on one encounter Golbat doesn't perform an expected quick Bite. While you instruct Charmander to dodge the expected quick lunge your opponent holds back a bit, readying a dreaded Poison Jab, the same attack that doomed Blue's Squirtle.

With Charmander already trying to dodge a quick attack that never arrived, it is a sitting duck for the fateful strike. You stand there speechless as Golbat takes off into the air, watching your already fairly tired pokemon stumble and fall over, quickly succumbing to the poison.

Your legs give out beneath you and you collapse to the ground. You shamefully recall Charmander back to its pokeball and look up to your opponent as he closes the distance to you. You just failed your last chance at escaping this fate.
