“Cant wake up, wake me up inside.” -Evanescence
DATE: UNKNOWN
I awoke, groaning through clenched teeth, my eyes refusing to open.
I tasted blood and metal, my entire body felt sore, and mild pain shot through me every few seconds.
Breathing was difficult and I felt as if I was choking.
Frantic, I forced open my eyes, my vision blurred, tears streaming down my face, yet I saw it. A tube going into my mouth and down my throat.
My hand snapped to pull it out.
A bad idea.
Gripping the tube I pulled with all my strength, and the tube came shooting out, along with blood, and phlegm.
Pain now seared through my throat and nose. I yelled in pain.
Suddenly, I felt a hand on me, my yelling must have attracted the attention of whoever did this to me. I heard a voice.
“Your Highness! Your Highness! Stop stop! Let me help! Doctor! Doctor! He’s awake!”
A woman.
My vision still blurred I only heard her shoes as she jogged out of the room.
I felt more wires and tubes attached to me. On each wrist, pricking me, and further up my forearm. A steady beeping from what was likely an EKG machine letting me know I was indeed living.
Footsteps. Several of them, entering the room. Voices.
“Are you certain he’s awake? It cant be possible…” I heard another voice say.
“Surely not after all this time” a male voice said.
“Your Highness, can you hear me?” A woman asked me?
“He tore out the ventilator!” The male voice cried.
“Get me 2.5 milligrams of morphine and a disinfectant. I need to make sure he didn't cause any internal damage ripping it out.”
“Prep the CT scanner”
“Your highness, can you open your eyes for me?”
I moved my head no.
“Can you give me that?” The woman, must be the doctor, said to someone.
“Okay, this might hurt.” She said to me after a moment.
Light. Blinding into my eye as the doctor gently opened my eyelids and shined a light into them.
“Okay…” she said quietly as she checked each eye and closed them.
“Nurse, get the eyedrops please.”
“Are you able to speak?”
Again I nodded my head no.
“Possible throat infection, start a course of antibiotics.”
“Open your mouth for me please.”
I did so, with difficulty, I heard a click as she must have put the same flashlight down my throat.
“Swollen with minor bleeding.”
“Here are the eyedrops doctor.” I heard another woman with an almost childlike voice say.
“Okay, I’m going to put these eyedrops in, which will hopefully clear your vision. This will sting a bit.”
She gently pried my eyelids open again, adding three drops in each eye. I grit my teeth and hold back a yelp as she does so.
“Okay, keep your eyes closed for 30 seconds to let the drops work.
Nurse, where is the antibiotic?”
“Excellent” she murmured after I heard a shuffling sound.
I felt pressure in my right wrist as she administered the liquid into the IV.
“Okay, you may open your eyes now.”
