Memories Not Wasted

....

You drift from a dream to another....memory to memory, reality to reality....

"JAY!!! Are you alright!?"

Your voice shouts as bullets and explosions hit the vehicle you're hiding behind. The skyscraper in the distance goes up in smoke and flames. The sky rumbles with impending rain. Gunfire and screams cover the city.

"Fhuck....Jun. I'm- I'm fucking hit urghhh!!!" Jay groans through his clenched teeth. His hands cover the right side of his chest where a bullet wound gushes out blood from.

You lean in and help him onto the ground. "MEDIIIIIIC!!!!" You shout out to the others with desperation.

"Jun, you have to go. Where are the others?-" Jay says and you grab his hand looking down at him again.

"You shut up! I need you alive!" You shout down at him with tears beginning to stream down your cheek.

He looks at you with the same amount of intensity in his eyes. "I'm not a bringer Jun....I don't matter. Makes no difference if I die here or not. I won't COUGH- remember the next reality anyways."

"Don't you say that. Yes it does and after everything we've been through I'm not letting you die here! Not like this!" You look down at Jay gasping for air trying to hold back the pain. "I'm not a bringer either, Jay....but I've lost too many people to turn my head. We're not going to remember this reality when the next one is made....but that doesn't mean what happened here don't matter...."

You swallow hard and speak again keeping eye contact with Jay. "....our efforts will NOT be lost. This fight will matter for the next reality."

"Then protect her....and make sure she becomes the Crowned." Jay says with slow words.

"I will. I promise." You say back to him before getting pushed aside by the men rushing forward to aid him. Their uniforms display a crescent moon on their backs with a flower in the center of it.

You step back and let the medics treat Jay. Your breath huffs heavily as you try to calm yourself....he'll be okay....he's alright.

"Jun."

A timid girl's voice says behind you and you turn to look. A short frail looking girl with the same moon symbol on her uniform looks up at you. Her face is bruised. Her lips are cut. Her tied back white hair is loosened. She wipes away her tears and grabs your hand tightly. You **** a smile softly back at her and look up at the tall buildings nearby. Helicopters fly overhead through the noisy city, the loud spins of their blades drowned out by the chaos....

....then it rains. The first drop hits your cheek merging with your tears. And you wake.
