The state of magic community on the continent

Several months have passed since the ball. We are back to our usual training and studies schedule. We got a little more free time since we no longer needed etiquette and dance lessons. I have recently reached the adept level in fire, wind and all three dark magic types. Arti reached the adept level in light magic some months ago but is still yet to reach the adept level in fire and wind magic.

All of my magic elements, except for light magic, are now at the adept level. On average, it takes 8 years to reach the adept level in an element. The next step is reaching the expert level. It is hard to estimate how much time one would need to reach the expert level. Only mages with high affinity in an element can hope to reach the expert level. While most do at some point, the time it takes them to achieve that varies. For some, like Elora, it took 5 years. This is rare, but it happens. Sometimes people just click with their magic types. Other people struggle greatly. It is common to spend between 10 to 50 years to reach the expert level. Once someone becomes an expert class magic user, they begin their journey towards reaching the master level. Many try and train until their natural deaths but not everyone can become a master. In fact, only a select few are able to achieve that. When they do, they become one of the strongest magic users on the continent. There are currently 17 master-level magic users. Each nation has at least one in order to keep the balance of power even.

There are two master-level mages in Astria. The first one is Emerik. He is the youngest of the 17. He is a master in earth magic. Then there is the master of magma magic. He is very old, at approximately 110 years of age, and retired. The Kingdom of Castrevia also has two master mages. One, a woman in her 80s, is the master of mist magic. The other, a man in his 70s, is the master of fire magic. The Empire has two masters. One is a man in his 60s who is a wind magic user. The other is a man who is around 100 years old. He is the master of ice magic. Shavian Theocracy has one master of water magic. She is a woman in her 70s. Roredania also has two masters. A woman in her 60s who is the master of illusion magic and another woman in her 70s who is the master of earth magic. The latter was the one who taught Emerik. The Principality of Hadria has two master-level mages. The first one is a man in his 80s who is a fire mage. The other is a man in his 90s who is the master of magma magic. Our master of magma magic and there are said to be some sort of rivals. Next, in the Kingdom of Markadia, there also are two masters. The first one is the man in his 60s who is the sand magic user. The other is a woman who is a little over 100 years old. She is the master of wind magic. The United Tribes of Kin has one master-level mage. He is a man in his 70s and is a master of shadow type of dark magic. The Invian Theocracy has two masters. One is the current Pope, Saint Pope Khalificer. The Pope is said to be in his late 70s He is the master of light magic. The other is a woman in her 90s who is a master of water magic. Lastly, in the Council of Faeldorei, one of the Five Elven Elders is the master of plant magic. She is a woman in her 80s.

There are currently no masters of lightning magic. This might be changed in the future. Elora is considered to be a candidate to become the master of lightning magic. She is already an expert in fire, wind and lightning magic, and has been focusing her training on lightning magic. She is also the youngest person to reach an expert level in three magic elements in the past 300 years. I might be able to break that record.

That is the current state of the magical community on the continent. Elora started teaching me lightning magic. Emerik is teaching Arti and me plant magic. It was going well so far. Lightning magic is a bit easier for me than plant magic. Arti makes good progress with nature magic. Once Tia reaches the adept level in wind and water, our father will find a tutor for ice magic for her and me. As it stands, learning the four basic elements, two sub-elements and dark magic with currently three types of magic is a bit overwhelming. Add to that my studies and physical training, and I barely have time to eat and sleep. The plan is to continue studying all these magic types for a year to see which magic elements feel better to us. So far, it is hard to say. It feels like I learn almost all elements evenly. Wind, water and fire feel slightly better than earth magic to me. However, if I want to raise the level of one of the sub-elements to an expert level, for example, ice, then I will need to reach an expert level in water and wind. I have some hard decisions to make in the future. The whole situation with dark magic doesn’t help. I am already studying three different types of dark magic when, usually, people only can use one type of dark magic. It might be that I can use other types as well.
