Amelia woke from what seemed like an everlasting nightmare. She’d never been petrified before, and never wanted to again.
“This one is awake,” someone said. He had a thick, deep voice.
Amelia could move, but her eyes were a deep blur, like there was a waterfall inches from her face, with everything else behind it.
She stumbled; legs unable to carry her any more. She fell onto her side, at least her landing was softened by what felt like a bed. No matter how much she blinked, her eyes couldn’t see. The brightness of it **** tears down both sides of both eyes. Her arms and legs could barely move. She tried to speak, but her lips were numb.
“Stay there a while,” the man said. “You’re in the preparation rooms. Now that you’re awake, your auction will be tomorrow.”
Suddenly everything flooded back to her, the bounty hunters, Elovar, the petrification. She tried to scream and writhe around in agony, but she barely moved.
