Chapter 18 by Ggnt Ggnt

Does Gwen call him?

Of course

Will was nervous. Actually, to be honest he was terrified. He hadn't been on a date in forever. Now he was waiting for one of the most gorgeous women he'd ever seen to show up. He knew she'd come, once she'd called him to set it up he knew his hypnosis had worked. It was just what came next that he feared, he hadn't put any conditioning in to make her actually like him, or prevent her from just walking away as soon as she saw what he looked like.

Snap out of it Will, he slapped his own cheek lightly. Remember what Sally said, be confident. He heard footsteps approaching and turned to see her just steps away from him. He couldn't help but smile, dressed up for their date she looked like a model. He reached his hand out, "Hi Gwen? Nice to meet you, I'm Will."

She took his hand, "Hi Will. Shall we go inside?" They were outside a restaurant, she told him she liked Indian food and this was his favourite place for take out. He'd never actually been inside before, but he trusted the online reviews. He held the door for her and then followed her inside. He'd made a reservation so they were led straight to a table.

Despite his initial fears, he found himself flush with confidence. Somehow he was able to talk to her, ask her about herself, and keep her engaged and smiling. He learnt she was doing her undergrad in chemistry, pre-med. She'd moved her for University, having grown up in a small town upstate. She played intramural volleyball, she was part of the school's solar powered car race team, she volunteered at a nursing home. Honestly, she sounded amazing. The most she talked, the more infatuated he become.

Then disaster struck, she asked him about himself. Will couldn't exactly say he was a lazy 61 year old who'd never done anything until he found a magic ring that turned back the clock. He also knew she wouldn't appreciate a uneducated man with no plans to better himself. He was screwed. He decided on a lie, the same lie he'd told Marv back at the apartment, "Actually I'm retired," He told her with a smile, "I won the lottery. Good money, not spectacular. I'm still deciding what I want to do next."

"Wow, that's amazing. What did you retire from?" He could tell her question was probing, trying to see if he had the ambition she was looking for.

Well, again a little bit a truth would help his lie. Decades ago he'd worked construction, before his injury. "Construction. I was a laborer, working on new builds. Definitely not something you do for any reason except a paycheck. I'm thinking of going to school, but I haven't decided what I want to study yet." He didn't want to start talking about a topic he knew nothing about.

She didn't answer right away, when she finally did his heart dropped, "Will...I'm sorry. I don't know what it is, but something just isn't adding up for me. Thank you for the meal, but I don't think I see this going anywhere."

Will felt this panic in his soul, he knew he needed her. He didn't know why, but he just did. The wishes of the past were pushing him forward. She stood up from her chair and the words just boiling out of his mouth, "Wait, I wish you would stay."

The magic hit her and she stopped. Ever so slowly she sat back down, and then she stared at him. Finally she spoke, "Why aren't I leaving...? I want to go now...but I can't."

Will knew of course, but he shrugged, "Maybe you changed your mind?"

She shook her head, "No. I've ever more convinced...wait. What did you say exactly...I wish?" She stopped talking and appeared deep in thought. Then she shrugged, "Well then, I wish you would tell me why I'm not leaving. Leave nothing out, tell me everything."

Uh oh, time to spill his guts
