Destroy it!

The altar is too creepy to be allowed to continue existing! Raising your staff, you aim a fire bolt at it altar and in a flash, you blast it to pieces! As you do so however the liquid-filled spider shatters and a foul black muck emerges and starts sliding towards you! The thing resembles a thick black jelly, with long tendrils that sprount in and out of the central mass, as it advances. You recognise it instantly as a black ooze; a monster notorious for destroying equipment and leaving its victims vulnerable! You'll have to think fast as it reaches for you!
