Chapter 42

So, you are thinking about ways to secretly enter the city guard barracks.
Get through the roof. The option is clearly better than going through the guarded main entrance.
You estimate the distance from the roof you are currently on to the roof of the city guard barracks building.
This distance is significant. But if you try, you can jump over. It's risky. But it's better than trying to enter the barracks through the main entrance, which is guarded by strong armed guys.
You accelerate, run and jump.
Flight. Cool night air.
"Bam!"
You land on the roof of the barracks. You were close to the edge of the roof. Any more and you would have fallen. But your dexterity was sufficient. You carefully move along the roof of the barracks building. You are looking for a way to quietly climb into a window on the second floor of this building.
You notice a narrow window that seems to suit your goals. You carefully make your way to the window, trying to be as quiet as possible. As you get closer, you will see that the window is locked.
You take out your sharp blued steel dagger with a hilt that has a snake pattern on it.
You use the tip of the dagger to open the window.
It's quite difficult. Luckily the window frame is made from old, worn wood. After a minute, you manage to damage the window frame in such a way that the window is now open. You carefully climb through this window and find yourself in a small dusty room. There are many cabinets with books and scrolls.
There is only one door in the room. You slowly approach the door, leaning against the wall next to the door. You try to walk quietly and not make noise.
Leaning against the wall, you listen to what is happening nearby.
Outside the door you can hear the noise of conversations and footsteps. There is probably a corridor there. You catch the words spoken by a rough, hoarse voice: “We need to increase patrols! We need more evidence! The perpetrators are just pawns, I need to identify the organizers of the gang! Besides, if we can catch a few more bastards from this gang, then in a couple of days we will **** them to tell us where they are hiding the stolen valuables!”
The second voice sounds obsequious: “That’s right, sir Ridegor! I will give orders to increase patrols! What do you order to do with this commoner who testified about the moneylender?”
You understand that it is about who you are looking for. About Leotan.
A hoarse voice says: “Let this commoner remain in the room near the archive room for now. Don't let him go anywhere! So far, this idiot has said too little useful... He should be subjected to more thorough interrogation. Tomorrow, his interrogation will continue..."
The steps are removed. These two persons go further down the corridor.
You reflect on what you heard.
When suddenly you hear the sound of a key moving in the keyhole. The door opens slowly.
You pressed yourself close to the wall in such a way that it was difficult to notice you from behind the open door.
Someone comes into the room.
You see in the semi-darkness that this is a female silhouette. Dress. Long hair. A pile of scrolls in hands.
The girl doesn't notice you. She walks over to the cabinets and begins putting scrolls on the shelves.
You approach a girl from behind. Your hand covers her mouth to keep her from screaming.
Your other hand holds the hilt of a steel dagger. The tip of a blued steel dagger touches the delicate skin of the girl’s neck.
You whisper in the girl’s ear: “If you scream, you will die in a moment. Nod if you agree not to shout and answer my questions.”
The girl nods desperately, fear etched on her face. You release her mouth and ask what she knows about Leotan's whereabouts.
She hesitates for a moment before answering, “Is this the witness? A young guy who is in the next room. He has blond hair, a wart on the left side of his forehead, gray eyes... In the next room on the right along the corridor, this guy is guarded by one of the city guards... Please! Let me go! I'm just a city guard archive worker! I pose no threat to you! I don’t know anything else that would be useful for you!”
You take a step back, pondering the information.
So, you roughly know where to go... What actions will follow on your part now?
