Chapter 3 by Trom1806 Trom1806

What path shall you take...

You decide to be cautious. You need to rest. The hunt will begin later, when you have regained your strength.

You are thinking about the current situation in this village. Of course, you still know few details about the problem. But what you saw and heard already allows you, as an experienced mercenary, to draw certain conclusions regarding an adequate strategy for planning a hunt for a monster.

You are a professional, skillful and experienced hunter (unlike the local residents who unsuccessfully tried to solve the problem with the monster on their own). You could start hunting for this wolf this evening

But is it worth doing? Should you rush?

Another plan would be much more prudent: today you will rest, and tomorrow you will begin to collect detailed information about the beast that you have to kill. Tomorrow you will learn about the area where it is more likely to meet this wolf. And you will plan an ambush. Perhaps you will attract one of the local residents as an assistant who can assist you in making traps and who will help you quickly move around the area.

Thinking like this, you sat at an old small beech table near the stairs. For a short time you were busy eating. The food was not very plentiful (it would be difficult to expect anything else from this provincial village): sour wine, dried beef, oatmeal and some vegetables. However, you were probably given better food. By local modest standards.

The innkeeper, Durlen Gruy, served you obsequiously, clearly trying to make the best impression on you. He was helped by several young pretty girls-servants.

Looking around at the locals who are now in the inn, you fleetingly thought: “This headman of village is trying too hard to please me. I recognize the manners of a flattering salesman. He will probably ask for a discount for my services later. But he will be disappointed in this matter.”

You did not even doubt the successful outcome of your confrontation with this dangerous furious beast. You reasonably believed that you had sufficient factors for success: your skills, your experience and careful preparation of the ambush site.

When you finished your meal, you spoke to Durlen in a commanding tone: “I need rest. Give me the best room in this building. You will tell me the details about your problem tomorrow.”

Headman of village nodded. He then said something to one of the serving girls who was helping him serve you during your meal.

The maid timidly came closer to you. She bowed low to you, her cheeks slightly flushed with embarrassment. Her appearance: thick reddish hair, short height (about 155 centimeters), thin physique, pale skin with freckles around the eyes, clear voice and large emerald green eyes - all this made you think that she was very young; she is probably around 18 years old.

She said quietly: “Please follow me, noble sir. I'll show you your room for the night."

She addresses you as a person of the noble class. You are certainly not a nobleman. But you did not explain this to these illiterate peasants, who have hardly been to at least one large city in their entire lives. Let them think whatever they want about you.

Your ears caught muttering from the peasants who remained in the main hall of the inn: “He doesn’t understand... Damnation... We are doomed... We must pray to the gods!”

The usual superstitious nonsense. You're not surprised.

So, you follow the red-haired girl to the second floor of this inn. The irritating creaking of the floorboards and staircase steps indicate that this building is long overdue for renovation. The maid leads you to a large room at the end of the corridor.

Inside this room seems quite spacious. A wide double bed, a wardrobe, a small table (it is located next to the bed) and a couple of stools.

You take your small travel bag on a sling from your shoulder. In this bag you store a variety of things that can be useful during travel: several bottles of potions that speed up the healing of wounds; area maps; a pair of spare knives in leather sheaths; additional arrowheads; a flask of water and some long-lasting food supplies (dried pork).

You remove your scale-mail coat and carefully place it in your closet. Your weapon will be closer to you: you place your sword and bow on the table near the bed.

You also have a small steel axe. This is a secondary weapon that you rarely use (usually, you manage to solve the problem with arrows from a bow or using a sword). You place the axe nearby.

While you were putting your things away, the maid remained in the room. You glanced briefly at her pretty face - she blushed even more from growing embarrassment.

You asked displeasedly: "Why are you still in the room? Do you need something?"

The red-haired girl, stuttering slightly, said: “The owner of the inn... he ordered me... ordered...”

You impatiently ask, “What exactly did he order you to do?”

The girl says: “Durlen Gruy said that I am obliged to provide you with maximum comfort. He ordered me to spend the night with you in your bed.”

This was somewhat unexpected for you.

Headman of village has outdone himself in trying to please you.

This young pretty girl can be a good night's entertainment for you.

So what decision will you make?

Will you spend the night alone?

Or will you spend the night having fun in bed with this beautiful red-haired cutie?

This night your rest in bed will be...
