Doldrums

Back in the days when sailors relied only upon windpower to sail the seas, there was always a fear of doldrums. Across the equator lay a zone of little tradewinds, leaving equally little movement.

Since the untimely deaths of Abe and Moses, Elizabeth had experienced her own doldrums. Bereft of her compasses, she was left to flounder. She had an affair with the pool boy, Julio for awhile. Now, at 47, she decided she needed to embrace what she truly was -- a lover of Black men, of Black culture, of Black food. She went back to the small Black church she and Moses originally attended. Her friends were now almost exclusively Black, headed by the energetic Bernice. And now, she just needed a man to share her life with. A man full of energy and life and verve. Tradewinds to cure her doldrums.
