Aiko stopped in her tracks. She wore she heard a rustling sound. Was that Roxanne, or was her mind playing tricks on her?

She slowed her speed, praying that none of the floorboards would creek and reveal her position. As she approached the next open door, she saw a gleaming, modern kitchen. Another sound. Now she knew that Roxanne was close.

Step by step, Aiko made her way toward the door. She pressed her face to the door’s hinges so that she could see through the crack. Sure enough, Roxanne was in the kitchen. She’d procured a chair and was standing on her tip-toes peering into a cupboard. Her brow was furrowed in frustration. Something she wanted wasn’t there.

Now was her chance.

Aiko came around the kitchen door. “Roxanne!”

“Wha…?”

Roxanne turned too quickly, and the chair wobbled. She let out a girlish scream as she lost her balance. Her hands attempted to grab onto something, anything but found nothing but air. The chair slipped out from under her, and gravity did the rest.

The punk princess hit the counter on the way down and landed on the floor hard. She practically bounced as she rolled over a couple of times.

Aiko paused for a moment, worried that she was seriously hurt. When she heard Roxanne groan, she released a breath.

“That’s the end of your games. Now, I’m going to give you the discipline someone should have given you long ago.”
