Invisible Introduction

That night, Gwen was swinging through Manhattan as she so often did, keeping an eye out for anyone who might need her help. Looking to take a breather, she perched herself on top of a skyscraper, and as she relaxed, she felt someone's presence next to her. She looked over to see Kara, now clad in a blue and red outfit similar to her cousin's.

"Kara! Good to see you again, Gwen grinned, pulling her mask and hood down. "Great outfit, by the way -- love the skirt."

"Hi there, Gwen. I've actually been looking for you these past few days when I've had a chance," Kara answered, smiling brightly as well. "Though I *have* been pretty busy as of late."

"Whoa. Your English has gotten a *lot* better since I last saw you," Gwen noted.

"Yeah, well, learning it so quickly was an... experience," Kara explained. "It involved making out with an alien princess and having a telepath root around in my head."

Gwen nodded, taking it all in. "Sounds like quite the story -- You'll have to tell me about it later. So, how's Earth been for you so far?"

"It's been a lot to take in," Kara admitted... "Kal -- Superman -- has been as welcoming as I could have hoped, and so have the people he's introduced me to. But I'm also still trying to process everything -- before I got here, my last memory is of my homeworld being destroyed..."

"...Oh. I'm sorry..." Gwen said in a sympathetic tone, her face dropping.

"Don't worry, it's OK," Kara reassured her. "Well, it's not *okay*... but I knew what I was walking into, and I think I'm handling it well enough. I know I'm not alone, I've got family here, a chance at a new life... all things considered, I'm optimistic."

"Good to hear," Gwen smiled, relieved. "I was wondering how you were doing. I appreciate you dropping by and letting me know."

Kara smiled back and answered, "No problem -- I was looking forward to it, actually. So... this is New York City, huh? I'm still getting used to Metropolis, myself."

Gwen nodded and gestured around her. "Yup. My hometown. I could give you the grand tour sometime, if you want..."

"I'd love that!" Kara answered enthusiastically, eager to get to know Gwen better. "How about now? I'm not doing anything..."

"Sure," Gwen answered as she put her mask and hood back on. "C'mon, follow me!"

Gwen led Kara along, taking her across Manhattan. They were instant friends, hitting it off immediately while Gwen pointed out the important landmarks of the city. Eventually, they were sidetracked when they spotted a giant monster popped up from beneath the street and began wreaking havoc, seemingly flailing about at what looked like nothing in particular.

"What's that thing trying to hit, exactly? There's nothing there," Kara pointed out.

"Actually, I think there is someone there..." Gwen answered. She was proven correct when the beast struck whatever it was trying to hit, revealing a blonde woman. While the blonde was knocked back, it seemed she was protected by some sort of **** field which absorbed the brunt of the attack, leaving the woman stunned, but unharmed.

"I thought so," Gwen nodded, turning to Kara. "That's a friend of mine down there. I think she's been trying to contain that thing. Welp, I better go help her out... you up for it?"

"Definitely. I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm pretty strong," Kara answered, flexing her biceps. Gwen chuckled and gave her a thumbs up.

"...So I've heard. you Kryptonians have a rep for that kinda thing," Gwen quipped, leaping off the roof and shooting a web, swinging down. Kara followed suit, flying after her.

Gwen shot a webline at a car and used the momentum to fling it at the beast, drawing its attention from the other woman. Hope whoever owned that has insurance, she thought to herself.

"Gwen. Your timing could be better," the woman said in a playful yet grateful tone. "But it could also be worse, I guess."

"Heya, Sue. You're as inspiring as ever," Gwen teased back. "I really think you missed your calling as a motivational speaker."

"Maybe. Though if I was, who'd fix all your screw-ups?" Sue pointed out, firing a **** field blast at the creature.

"I dunno. Maybe my new friend here? She's pretty capable," Gwen answered as Kara sped towards the monster, hitting it hard and sending it reeling.

"Whoa. That's, like, Hulk or Superman level strength... no way -- is she a Kryptonian?!" Sue asked.

"Yeah, my name's Kara. I'm pretty new in town," Supergirl answered while she & Gwen continued to pummel the beast. "Superman's my cousin."

"You're Superman's cousin, huh? Well, now I have questions... but they're gonna have to wait. My name's Sue. Sue Storm," Sue introduced herself. "Pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise," Kara nodded, blasting the monster with heat vision.

As the trio continued their offensive, Gwen looked around. "...So where's Johnny?" She asked, surprised not to see Sue's brother fighting alongside her.

"On his way. He's out of town, though," Sue explained. "I've been trying to contain this thing until then. I'm glad you guys showed up -- I'm sort of exhausted here..."

"So what's the plan here? Just keep hitting this thing until it falls down?" Gwen asked, webbing the creature's mouth shut to muffle its howls.

"More or less. But this thing can take a hit... it's like punching a mountain," Sue groaned, launching a **** field beam and striking the monster, knocking it backwards.

"Well, I hit pretty hard," Kara pointed out, delivering a series of rapid-fire punches to the creature. The monster began to swat at Kara, who flew around it to avoid its blows. Meanwhile, Gwen took advantage of the distraction, slingshotting herself feet first into the beast's singular eye.

The monster let out a howl as Gwen bounce off of the eye. She'd apparently done a lot of damage -- so much, in fact, the beast began to dissolve, melting into a pile of ooze on the pavement.

"Gross..." Gwen muttered. "Where'd that thing come from anyway?"

Out of the corner of her eye, Sue saw a familiar figure -- a short, rotund one she'd clashed with before. "Mole Man... get back here!"

Mole Man tried to run, but one quick webbing by Gwen later, he was ready for arrest once the authorities arrived. Gwen, Sue and Kara retreated to a suitable distance, watching over the scene as Mole Man was apprehended and taken into custody.

"Thanks for the help. You two made that so much easier," Sue said to the other two blondes. "You two got any plans for the rest of the night?"

Kara nodded. "Gwen was showing me around town. As I said, I'm pretty new here, and I don't know much about... well, anything around here."

"I see. Well, I thought I was gonna be preoccupied all night, but it looks like I've got some free time now. Just gotta get ahold of Johnny and tell him everything's taken care of," Sue answered, pulling her phone out and texting her brother. "So... you two wanna go get some coffee?"
