Before he can decide, Malene is on her feet and running back toward her path. She knows he knows where she’s going, so she tries to beat a track that he won’t be able to follow. As she looks up at the sky, she estimates she’s still kept her path home as direct as possible.

When she finally stops to listen for any pursuer, she hears nothing.
