Well here you are holding an empty Saki bottle in a back alley, alone and homeless, wondering where it all went wrong.

No, you knew where it all went wrong when Naruto Uzamaki became the hostage. His damned shadow clone policy ruined everything, and his new tech policies will finish the job.

You see, this all begins when the nine tails attack the village and leave orphans all over. The third now had a problem because most jobs were either passed down through family or brought in through reference with the orphans; neither of those were likely to happen. So now the third had a bunch of orphan children who had zero future job prospects.

So, the third had an idea. They were a ninja village, so why not make them ninja too? So, orphans were put into a special program to help get them into the Ninja Academy. This program continued through different hokages all the way to the seventh hokage, and he had no plans to end it.

The problems the program had were that it only got them into the academy, and the academy didn't have the best standards, relying more on elite joinin and ninja clan for advance training, so a lot of the kids ended up with only basic grunt training, and so many like me ended up as grunts in Kohona's ninja army. Now there's nothing wrong with that; every army needs grunts.

Except that Lord 7th is a master of shadow clones, and so he begins using his shadow clone to do patrols and other of the basic missions that grunts are expected to do. We were told it was to help prevent casualties, which sounds great in theory except this effectively made all grunt ninjas into a reserve, and Kohona pays by the mission, which means we became unemployed overnight.

So, yeah, I haven't gotten paid in months because I can't work now. Usually you would leave to find work somewhere else, but I'm a ninja of Kohona, and even if I'm now just a reservist, if I try to leave, it's considered desertions, which is the instant death penalty.

The really insidious part is the ninja clans aren't affected by this because many of their members get the advance training needed to become qualified to get the better mission, which the clones can't do, and they've also expanded into the civilian sector generations ago, which means they hold a monopoly on the jobs we in the reserves could get, keeping us out.

So right now, our only option is for us to die in the back alley of Kohona or go rogue and turn to banditry to survive, which means a Naruto clone showing up, declaring in the name of peace you have to die, then killing you.

"Fuck it." Jay said if I'm going to die anyway, I might as well make myself memorable instead of another random ninja among the other 12 rogue ninjas to kill that day.

I pull out my last kunai and walk towards the Uzamaki residents, knowing I'm going to take a risengon to the face, but at least I'll get to yell at him for ruining my life before I die.
