Chapter 16
by
MindGuy
What's next?
Now time to explore (and explain)
We then proceed to leave Wolfine to go to Latenross. While Stella and I walk to where the Hero's Guild is, we chat briefly as I ask Stella "Hey I was curious about something... Since you were trapped in that cave for like a decade, How much do you know about the outside world?" She then answers "Well... Thanks to my magic I was able to scan this world and receive some information about Gaia when I originally crashed here; The problem is that now my magic is not as strong as it used to be, like when I was in my original realm... I can still cast powerful spells, but if it requires a lot of energy from me, it takes longer for me to cast it."
I scratch the back of my head as I ask "So that means that you still have access to powerful magic, it's just that it takes you longer?" Stella then nods her head and says "Basically yes... For example, I was able to grant you your wish to alter common sense since you gave me enough time to cast it."
After I realized what she said, I said "Aaaaah... I understand now; But then how is it that my power is always active if I'm not casting any magical energy." Stella then carefully explains "You're but it's so little that you don't notice it, and the reason your power is always active... Hmmm, How do I explain it?"
Stella pauses for a moment and then begins to explain "Imagine that there's invisible energy that's always present in this universe, you don't see it but it's always there, some living beings can borrow it and use it to cast spells, but mortals have limits and can't keep the link between the energy and their physical world forever without a direct connection... That's where I come in! I made it so your mind works like a small bridge between you and the energy, small enough so your body doesn't succumb to the energy, you can't cast magical energy attacks with it, but it still allows you to influence and order every living being that you interact with."
So basically my power sort of works in the background of the subconsciousness of everyone's mind and is only present whenever I do something and/or someone perceives my presence ... or something like that, honestly, I'm too dumb to fully understand this either way.
After our casual conversation about how this magical energy works, we finally arrived at the entrance of Latenross, there's a giant light grey wall with some white and gold decoration and details. We can also see the many knights guarding this city's entrance, it's pretty evident the difference between this privileged city and my ordinary town.
We then walk towards the entrance where the main guard is checking the people who enter and exit Latenross. There are also some people with robes behind some of the guards, they're mages, and their job is to use their crystal balls to stop any strong magical anomalies, to avoid any crazy terrorist wizard. Thankfully the magic of Stella is perceived the same as any other regular sorcerer who visits the city, and my magic is perceived way too low for them to care about.
So we successfully enter Latenross, and as we both walk inside the city we can see a big difference between this city and my hometown. Here I can not only see regular humans like me but also some elves, orcs, demons, anthropomorphic creatures, goblins, etc... Yeah, Latenross is one of the main cities for a reason, different people from different races come to this city for many reasons. It can be to live here, do business with people from other kingdoms, sell rare items, acquire rare items, find better jobs, etc... But Stella and I are mainly here to just go and register at the Hero's Guild.
Stella seems fascinated by how pretty the place looks, Stella says "Wow! This place is so huge." I then jokingly add "Well to be fair, anything is better than living in a dark cave." After some walking and looking around, we finally arrived at the place, the Hero's Guild. I was always scared to come here, I could never win an actual fight against a monster or survive a dangerous quest, but with this hypnosis... Nobody is gonna stop me.
