The door opened

Valerie sighed in relief when the metal doors slid open, revealing a room full of monitors. A giant console with several buttons and a large keyboard lay in the center of the room. She sighed in relief - she was inside the control room.

She quickly walked to the console as the doors slid shut behind her. "What am I looking for?", she asked Iris.

"See if there's a slot to insert the device, likely near the central input." Valerie looked around until she found the slot as described, and inserted the key inside. "Perfect. I'll be in soon.", replied Iris.

To her surprise, all monitors in the room turned red. "Iris, something's wr-", she began saying, but a message came from the other side.

"Shit shit shit. It's a trap! All of you, get out!", said Iris frantically.

Fuck, thought Valerie. It had indeed been a little too easy to get until here so far. The unexpected convoy should have tipped them off.

"Hawk and Eva, status.", she said into her earpiece.

"I'm undetected, although I'm pinned near the LZ. There's about 10 heavily armed men near my position, headed inside the building.", said Hawk. From the maps, she knew the LZ was a small garage near the edge of the perimeter. He was likely hiding inside, looking out at the movement around him.

"Permission to engage?", he asked.

"Hawk, stand by.", she replied. "No need to risk it."

While he was capable, she didn't like the odds. 10 vs 1 was too many for even someone as skilled as him. If Eva and her could escape undetected, there would be no need to risk a direct confrontation.

"I'm inside the control room and headed for the LZ.", she continued. "Eva, come in.", she said, growing concerned as she turned towards the exit to the room. It has been a while since she had heard from the rookie agent. She hoped Eva had managed to stay hidden.

To her surprise, the door swung open before she could get to it. A shadow figure stood at the entrance.

"Going somewhere?"
