5. She’ll have to wait and see if one of the men untie her

Trying not to wake them, Malene writhes, trying to get her wrists untied. She is unsuccessful. As light begins to grow in the distance, she realizes she’ll have to wait and see if the men offer her an opportunity to escape unwittingly.

Leonel is the first to wake. He begins to break down the camp. As he cleans up, he glances over at Malene. Realizing that she’s been out all night, he walks over with a waterskin and some scraps of rations. He feeds her and splashes some water in her mouth. It’s not much, but it’s enough to fully revive her.

In a split second, Malene decides her best course of action is to pretend to be broken from the previous night’s ****. As Harun rises and begins to help his compatriot. Malene simply watches them with dead eyes.

“Who’ll carry the girl?” Leonel shoulders his pack.

Harun glances over at her, evaluating their captive.
